The intersection of LGBTQ+ identity and medicine has often been characterized by its friction. The infamous public health failures in addressing and mitigating the AIDS epidemic in the 1980s led to lingering stigmatization and staggering death tolls. Today, mounting attacks on gender affirming healthcare threaten the livelihoods of thousands of transgender and gender non-conforming folks. From this ever-shifting landscape of strife, activism emerges. The Rainbow Resilience podcast is invested in one-on-one conversations with those at the forefront of queer health activism — past and present. Rather than center solely on the struggles that LGBTQ+ communities are positioned against, Rainbow Resilience chooses to highlight the resilience that communities display through activism, often in the face of powerful opposition. Through this lens, the episodes seek to answer how LGBTQ+ communities have historically organized when their wellness was threatened, and what that activism can teach us today. As the priorities of LGBTQ+ health activism change, Rainbow Resilience aims to provide a public platform to explore the dynamic narratives of those invested in queer health activism.
