I remember the movie from 2000, Kevin Spacey was the new Social Science teacher to Trevor, who’s alcoholic mum was Helen Hunt. Spacey gave the class an assignment to come up with something to change the world and put it into action. Trevor came up with the idea to pay favours forward instead of back to the person who gave it in the first place. His notion was to “pay it forward” to three people. Then they in turn would each pay it forward to three people and so on, with the vision of changing the world!
What an a amazing concept. And it did have an impact. As happens from time to time - life imitated art and the pay it forward concept grew.
Well fast forward 20 years and I’ve been thinking about how Mel and I pass this concept on to our kids. How do we make this a legacy that each of them take forward in life?
So what are your thoughts on the notion of paying it forward? Can it really change the world? Have you encouraged your kids to pay it forward? Where and how have you seen it in life, and what impact did it have. Leave a message below, I’d love to hear your feedback!🙏
