As parents, one of our greatest callings is not simply to raise good children, but to raise children who know Jesus personally. Knowing about Jesus is not the same as knowing Him. The difference is relationship. Think of young Samuel in the temple (1 Samuel 3). Though he lived in a place of worship, he did not yet know the Lord until he heard His voice for himself. Eli helped him recognize that it was God speaking. That is our role as parents—to guide our children to recognize God’s voice and respond to Him. In a world filled with many voices and distractions, our children need to know the One true way, truth, and life—Jesus. They learn that first from what they see in us. When they watch us pray, worship, and trust God in trials, they see the living faith we talk about. When we share stories of how Jesus has been faithful, they begin to understand that He is real and present in their own lives.
