Season 1, episodes 19 and 20: “Duet” brings out the best in Kira and gives us one of the best episodes of the first season, but Matthew and Michael are split on the season finale “In the Hands of the Prophets.”

Season 1, episodes 17 and 18: “The Forsaken” brings back the always-amazing Lwaxana Troi as she takes an interest in Odo. In “Dramatis Personae,” a telepathic historical archive infects the crew with thoughts of mutiny.

Season 1, episodes 15 and 16: We’re joined by podcaster and playwright Bil Antoniou to discuss “Progress” and “If Wishes Were Horses.”

Season 1, episodes 13 and 14: In “Battle Lines,” Kai Opaka’s destiny leads her to a desolate moon inhabited by immortal warriors stuckin a never-ending war. Plus, in “The Storyteller,” Chief Miles O’Brien has to save a Bajoran village from a monster created from their own negative energy.

Season 1, episodes 11 and 12: In “The Nagus” we meet the head of the Ferengi Alliance, played by Wallace Shawn, who’s looking for an heir to reap profits in the Gamma Quadrant. “Vortex” promises clues into Odo’s past, but the shapeshifter has to help a fugitive.

Season 1, episodes 9 and 10: In “The Passenger,” an evil genius just wants to live his life and he’ll take over someone’s mind to do it. Matthew and Michael agree it’s not a great episode. And in “Move Along Home,” a good premise about a culture based on games has mixed results.

Season 1, episodes 7 and 8: In “Q-Less,” Vash, the rogue archaeologist and best thing to happen to Capt. Picard, wants to settle down after living on the road with Q. In “Dax,” the character’s symbiotic nature is explored in a courtroom drama.

Season 1, episodes 5 and 6: In “Babel,” Mr. Fix-It Miles O’Brien unwittingly unleashes a synthetic virus that gives everyone asphasia. Michael likes the idea, but Matthew’s not impressed. Both agree that “Captive Pursuit” is much better, with its murky moral quandary, and praise Colm Meaney’s performance.

Season 1, episodes 3 and 4: After the two-part pilot the writers start introducing DS9’s crew, with hints of how this show will distinguish itself from past Star Trek series. First up, Odo and Kira.
