Welcome to season 2 of Ramen to Riches. We’re back, 2020, new year, bigger and better, new hopes for the future! This is the teaser. A little dramatic, it must’ve been the pent up drama from taking a hiatus from the podcast.
There are many reasons why you shouldn’t listen to this podcast, for one, the host is afraid of failing, at anything, but everyone’s afraid to fail, the host is afraid of being embarrassed, disappointing his Mum, being laughed at, even worst, being attacked by strangers that you’ve never met, we’re not trying to be funny, we’re just trying to get a handle on life.
Why do anything, when the prospect of failure lurks around the corner? Why get out of bed in the morning, if you know you’ll be greeted by unhappy people who are forced into work and who see you as their competition? What drives you? Is it to satisfy your parents’ expectations, or to avoid your own disappointment in yourself.
So we’re starting this season by walking on a fragile tight rope, you and I, as we enter into the unknown. We’ll be meeting the entrepreneurs of Singapore, the tiny island nation in Southeast Asia, a tiny dot on a map, yet far outpacing its bigger neighbors to become the leader of the fastest-growing region in the world.
Prosperity, success, a country of crazy rich Asians. What makes Singaporeans so unique that it sets them apart from their neighbors, what inspires them to get out of bed, is it for power or for greed? What makes them hungry for more than they already have, and in the pursuit of their goals, what challenges did they fear and were forced to confront, and what happens if they lose?
This season, we’re talking to interesting people who made a decision, made a commitment, to leave the safety of land, to build a boat and push off from the shore, to explore, fight and endure the sea’s mysterious rage. Because running a business, like the vast open sea, throws things at you that you just don’t expect and they’re not all friendly.
And why should you listen? There are a million other stories out there. Just look at your social media, your insta stories, all your followers are smiling and posing, showing off their highlights reel of their life, but you don’t know the other side. You don’t see the tears they’ve shed, or the pain they experienced, because they hide it from their posts.
You’ve seen the overnight success stories, you’ve heard of friends of friends who have made it big, but that’s not the interesting part. The interesting part is when someone toys with their destiny, goes off the expected path, hovers just above failure, dips their toes into the pool of embarrassment and shame, and never know when they’ll see the light. But somehow, escapes oblivion and finds their way to the light. Those are the ones we cheer, the ones we tip our hats to and bow down because they have gone places we can only dream about.
So listen to these stories, check-in and download them, while you head to work, or go shopping, and use them so you can figure out how to build your own boat, that you’ll eventually push away from the comfort of your home.
Thank you for listening and don’t forget to share.
