The following narrative includes excerpts from a currently untitled collection of testimonies and interviews, where it is all about people’s voices, accents, and speech patterns, hand in hand with my own personal anecdotes and observations. 
In addition to that, people are free to introduce themselves and speak their minds openly in their indigenous languages, without any paraphrases or expectations. 
The goal is to create a ‘Universal Phrasebook Of Indigenous Languages’ (‘UPIL’).

The Yanesha culture is located in the Amazon rainforest, mostly in the upper regions of the eastern slope of the Andes, in Peru. 
The Yanesha language belongs to the larger Arawak language family. It uses words for items the meaning of which is difficult to conceptualize in a European language like Spanish. 
An indigenous language like Yanesha is deeply intertwined with many cultural traditions.

Steph Littlebird is an artist, curator, writer, and a registered member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes.  
As a descendant of the Chinook and Kalapuyan people, Littlebird makes sure that much of her artwork challenges mainstream portrayals of Native people. 
As an artist, Littlebird’s work combines traditional aesthetics with contemporary materials and subject matter to forge connections between our collective past and imminent future. 
Her works frequently engage issues related to present-day indigenous identities, marginalized histories, and responsible land stewardship.

Joseph Russell Diabo, born on December 25th 1955, is a son of a Kahnawake Mohawk Iron Worker, and is a member of the Mohawk Nation at Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada. 
His work as a First Nations policy analyst focuses on Canada’s colonial history,  the history of resistance, and decades of advocacy. 
Since Russ was a teenager, he has been active in indigenous politics. He was at the 1972 BIA takeover in Washington DC, and the 1973 Wounded Knee stand off.
After his experience in Wounded Knee, which he talks about here, his quest for knowledge would lead him to the top Native Studies programs offered in North America. 
In 1990, he also took part in the so-called ‘Oka Crisis’, near Montreal, Quebec, Canada,  one of the more recent armed conflicts between indigenous activists and the authorities.

Marcie D. Carter was born and raised in Lewiston, Idaho and is an enrolled member of the Nez Perce Tribe. She has a BS in Biology from Lewis Clark State College and an MS in Wildlife Resources from the UI. She’s currently working on a PhD in Natural Resources at the UI-CNR. 
She is also a full time employee with the Nez Perce Tribe-Department of Fisheries Resource Management-Watershed Division as the Watershed Coordinator.

Daisychain is a female-fronted blues/psych rock band based out of Chicago. Drawing from influences like Patti Smith, Melvins, The Velvet Underground, and Jack White, audiences can expect expressive guitar solos, a dynamic rhythm section, and smoky vocal harmonies all paying homage to a familiar sound. 
Their debut album, ‘All In A Name’, has been released June 27, 2025, and was produced by Sylvia Massy, who had worked with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Prince. 
The band is currently on tour in the US and will be touring Europe in the fall.

Laura Hollingsworth is a singer-songwriter, keyboard player, and co-founder of The Transference, a Chicago-based indie rock band whose dark themes are perfectly paired with joyful melodies and vocal harmonies.

Esther Belin is the author of two poetry books and coeditor of ‘The Diné Reader: An Anthology of Navajo Literature’. 
Belin’s visual art combines a variety of disciplines and works to reframe the mythical primitivism often associated with indigenous cultures. 
She is a citizen of the Navajo Nation and a member of ‘Saad Bee Hózhǫ́’, a Diné Writers’ Collective. She teaches in the Native American and Indigenous studies department at Fort Lewis College. In 2025, she was invited by the Poetry Foundation in Chicago to be the guest editor of its March issue dedicated to Diné poetry.
