There’s something about movies. Whether it’s Angry Birds this month or Mortal Kombat twenty years ago, the allure of turning video games into feature films is apparently too hard to resist. With Nintendo now getting in on the act, we’re using this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast to explore exactly what it is that makes video game movies turn out so badly and how Nintendo can overcome that curse. Of course, there’s plenty of other news to discuss too, including fresh details on Pokemon Go and Yooka-Laylee, some positive E3 2016 news, and even more new 3DS game announcements from Nintendo. All that, plus we reflect on two Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games in honor of next week’s release of TMNT: Out of the Shadows.

If last episode was all about the bombs Nintendo dropped, then this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast is the fallout as we see where the chips – or in this case, perhaps cards – fall for the rest of 2016. Also, we’ve got horses, solitaire, and a frog named Grippy Toad. The show begins with look at what will be keeping us busy now that NX and Zelda are off the table for 2016, including the first solid details on Pokemon Sun & Moon, a 2DS renaissance with both a price drop and new game announcements, and Mario’s Minecraft takeover. We also explore the ongoing woes of the toys-to-life world, examining Disney Infinity’s sudden discontinuation and what it could mean for amiibo going forward. The show then concludes with our full impressions of horse racing/solitaire hybrid Pocket Card Jockey and Wii U’s Star Fox Guard.
Have you had a chance to horse around with Pocket Card Jockey? Share you thoughts on the game, or any of the topics discussed in this episode, in the comments below! This is one jam-packed episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast – and no, it’s not just because we have full impressions of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam closing out the show. Between the slew of news, rumors, and a certain baritone-voiced Pikachu, this episode has something for everyone. We start things off with all the big stories from Nintendo’s recent investor meeting, including a breakdown of their latest financials and fresh details on the oncoming My Nintendo program and Miitomo. We then focus on what wasn’t discussed, namely the ever-mysterious (and now shelved?) Quality of Life product as well as fresh rumors about both the NX and a certain “Smash” hit that may launch alongside it. From there, we run through a variety of news including reports of Mother 3 finally coming Stateside, yet another delay for Mighty No. 9, and the strange world of Detective Pikachu.
