Today on the show, Daniel Huber, founder of the Alberta Vanguard Association and Fairserve.ca, reacts to UCP leader Jason Kenney’s new proposal for a sub-minimum wage for youth and alcohol servers. Kenney announced that idea at a recent meeting for Restaurants Canada, an industry lobby group opposed to Alberta’s new $15 minimum wage. But Huber, a chef, worker, consultant and now business owner in Edmonton, hopes restaurant workers can organize to make their voices a little louder.

After, we’ll hear from Tiffany Sostar, narrative therapist and feminist community organizer based in Calgary, on the politics of feminist consulting for workplaces and organizations, and how the most effective changes to workplace culture and diversity are driven by workers, not management.

Tiffany Sostar is a narrative therapist and community organizer, living and working as a white settler on Treaty 7 land. They love collective narrative practice - meeting with groups or individuals to bring together stories of resisting and responding to trauma and injustice. They write and consult in addition to the narrative therapy and community work.

Doug Ford's "student choice" initiative in Ontario will destabilize student union funding and dramatically alter the landscape for training future student and labour organizers in Canada. In Alberta, the door to attack student funding has been wedged open by right wing bootlickers. Ultimately, it pushes Canada closer to a government being able to introduce right-to-work legislation that will undermine labour's ability to collect union dues, much like we've seen in America with the Janus supreme court decision in 2018.
