KMRU, also known as Joseph Kamaru, is a sound artist originally from Nairobi and currently based in Berlin. He explores sound to convey various interpretations in his work, drawing from his listening experiences in Nairobi and beyond and grounded in the discourse of field recording, noise, and sound art.

Working under the guidance of Jasmine Guffund at Berlin’s Universität der Künste (better known as UDK), KMRU looked at waveforms and embarked on a process where he would “write scores from the shapes, gradually turning the scores into raw synth sounds.”

Kamaru’s ambient-experimental music has taken him to the Barbican, Berlin Atonal, Présences

électronique, and seen releases on Editions Mego, Subtext, Seil Records.

His new LP ‘Dissolution Grip,’ released on his OFNOT imprint, marks a shift in his approach, blending field recordings with synthesized sounds, hinting at his evolving musical direction.

With all that in mind, we thought we’d ask Kamaru to put us together this week’s mixtape for a Monday… let’s get stuck in.

With the London Contemporary Orchestra he stirred,

“The Rider (Not The Horse)” he penned,

Robag Wruhme, a name to comprehend.

Their music, a whimsical, wild discourse,

Intricacies galore, an imaginative force,

A symphony of chaos, a cacophonous spree,

In this sonic adventure, there’s no guarantee.

Notes and beats, a rollercoaster ride,

In this surreal composition, they confide,

A musical journey with no remorse,

The evening was hot as the cars whizzed by quickly on the boulevard – the last of the sun worshippers could be seen bathing on the sand. In the distance the sky was a faint glowing pink, the light was thin. Headlights flickered and flashed as cars whizzed up and down the stretch by the seafront, tall buildings were like dark shadows overlooking it all from behind.

Occasionally there was a shout or a scream from one of the neighbourhood bars or bodegas, people had gathered in the warmth of the evening to take in the dying embers of the summer. It was sticky and humid out though, so they sat beneath fans sipping cold drinks to keep cool.

He sat waiting by the side of the road for his ride. It had been a bittersweet day – long and hot. Then, like a blazing hurricane whizzed past his ride, window down his girl shouted to him from the passenger side. He smiled with a wink.

‘Hola Papi…’ she screamed.

Hugo Mari is set to release a new single, a sun kissed house track with a deep groove and sexy sensibilities. This one is for the hot and humid dancefloors – wherever they might be found.

The mountain was calling out to them from up above, it were as if the peaks themselves were demanding that they be climbed and conquered so as there may be no stone left unturned by man. The clouds hovered thick around each pointed top, in the distance they watched as eagles soared high. It was easy for them, without such fear of falling.

The morning air was cold and brisk as they watched from the riverbank beneath, it seemed an awfully long way up and a very far way to go. Was it worth the risk? To who would their effort be worth?

Soon they would pack up and depart, taking with them all that they could carry. For it was right to leave no trace and heaven forbid they upset the whimsical power of the mountain to crush them beneath its might and weight at any time.

Gem Wallow is set to release a new EP on Barcelona based record label Playground . The record features a fun assortment of downtempo tracks with a pensive slow moving ambience which is almost ritualistic. It's rounded off by remixes from Simple Symnetry and Francis Inferno Orchestra.

The weekends were getting longer, it were as if they party had gone on for far too long. It had never meant to be like this, the lack of sleep was becoming stark.

Back at the beginning people had used to as if you were 'up to much?' Now it was a case of being up too much.

There was only so long that the madness could continue - only so long before the cracks began to show. Was it all a little bit far fetched for what it was worth?

Andy Bainbridge is set to release a new EP on Not An Animal - a pumping original paired with two futuristic club expansions which take the record further beyond.

There wasn’t anywhere else like it, no place in earth could evoke the same feelings of wild desire, freedom and magic. As the sunlight began to fade over the campsite, they sat in the foothills of the tall mountain which would watch over them through the night and keep them safe.

The air here was clean and warm, a soft breeze was the only thing to unsettle the branches of the trees which lined their enclave in the forest. A fire burnt in the middle of the clearing.

In the distance they could hear the sound of the birds soaring upon the evening wind.

Electric Shapes are set to release a new EP from HOS – a deep, pensive, percussive listen built for dark rooms and private moments.

This was the message they had to hear. This was not a case of rhyme or reason. There was to be no debate, no further instruction or guidance. This was the truth, the message from above, a meaning from a greater place beyond.

Serenda is set to release a wicked EP on Josh Caffe’s record label Love Child. This one goes hard, banging the drum with punchy synths and spoken words set to ignite, empower and tear the dancefloor to bits.

In the first of a new series we invite Jacana People to take to the decks for a special hotmix, showcasing as many tracks and tricks as they can inside ten'ish minutes.

Recorded live at Pirate Studios in Dalston - this mix powers speedily through House, Breaks and beyond.

Jacana People are a duo with a penchant for creating delicately crafted Electronica with melodic undertones. The pair have risen to prominence following a string of releases with have gathered wide support and demonstrate a knowledge and expertise well beyond their years in respect of sound design.

The pair begun working together in the studio and have since evolved into DJ'ing thereafter. This mix spotlights some of their creative influences and tastes in a short space of time.

To come ‘Full Circle’ is to travel the path and arrive back at the point you think you left from.

Full Circle, also known as Alexis Le-Tan (Wonders Ovze World) and Joakim (Tigersushi, Crowdspacer), a long term project with close friends Le-Tan and Joakim music project and “concept band born from loving ears that want to re-process our electronic past.”

They’ve delivered some amazing edits of obscure Goa tracks and remixed the likes of Die Orangen, 10Lec6, and Tapan and released on Good Morning Tapes and Vladimir Ivkovic’s Offen.

“To complete a journey is to learn and to slow down and re-imagine is to enrich – Full Circle hears the hedonistic sound of the 90’s in a light that reflects a different space for our current time and beyond. Always bridging the gap between the past and present: they are and continue to go Full Circle.”
