  • We Should Hang Out More: The 'Shine A Light On' Mix
The DIY ethos of the North has long been written about and described with great wonder. Glasgow remains a key city in the evolution of electronic music and is widely regarded as being a hotbed for up and coming talent - be this in the form of producers, dj's, diggers or bands.
We Should Hang Out More are a prominent duo who operate in Glasgow, running widely praised parties and delighting dancefloors with vigour and energy. They have their fingers in many pies, those of you who know will be well aware of their late night endeavours and efforts to make the nightlife scene in Scotland as prominent and prolific as it can be. A noble venture and one which demonstrates commitment.
As dj's they are fast paced, lively and fun focussed. This mix is as upbeat and happy go lucky as you might find.

  • Ludwig A.F: The Ransom Note Mix
Now here's a fun treat designed to spice up your Friday, Ludwig A.F. Röhrscheid is a producer and DJ with a wonderful care free approach to electronic music.
He makes incredibly tasteful tracks, often with a distinctive personality which can be hard to find in an overly saturated market. There are nods to prominent 90's influences dotted throughout his music and they're usually always playful. So far he has released music most prominently through his own EXO Recordings label, however he has also appeared on Unknown To The Unknown.
Ludwig is one of the only people known to have played ATB's 'Til I Come' during a Boiler Room session and for that we very much salute him. Who knows what the hell this mix holds in store but we bet it's bloody brilliant.

  • Ribeka: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix
Originating from Glasgow, Becky Marshall was raised on an eclectic mixture of avant garde electronics and techno which was rooted in parties and culture across the city at the time. Some refer to it as some sort of 'golden age' whilst others simply reflect on the good times and the musical legacy it left behind. To this day there are "classic" mixtapes which float amidst circles in the city, tales of mixes and sets from parties long ago - memories from the likes of Club 69 in Paisley, Pure in Edinburgh and vintage university radio recordings.
All of the above has helped formulate an eclectic breadth of musical knowledge, one which is perhaps best showcased through Ribeka's collaborative monthly radio show alongside Sofay on NTS. She often focusses on the darker fringes of electronic music - exploring the far flung reaches of dub, krautrock, wave, techno and beyond.
Ribeka has also played a prominent figure amidst the wider musical community in Glasgow, as a respected DJ she has hosted parties, held down residencies and been a source of musical education in a city which is ever changing.
We are delighted to be able to pull her away from a hectic day job to record a mix.

  • SoulPhiction: The Ransom Note Mix
So, here we are... Kicking off the new year with a mix from perhaps one of the most important German producers and DJ's of the last twenty years. Soulphiction has been a stalwart of electronic music having released definitive material on the likes of Perlon, Pampa and Playhouse amongst others. He is also the co-founder of Philpot, a record label which he launched in the year 2000 alongside his friend Blacktrane.
Michel Baumann grew up in a time by which the dj was king and crate digging was essential, as such he has always drawn upon influences from the golden age of boogie, hip hop, soul and funk. Much of his own music draws upon a deep rooted love and respect for that which came before, it's partly why his own resulting take on deep house is as special and unique as it is.
Last year saw perhaps the best representation of his own musical identity through the release of a new album, a three part LP for Local Talk, which allowed him to showcase the breadth of his own progression through sound.
Not one to often record mixes, we are delighted and humbled to be able to feature a mix from a much loved talent.

  • Marco Passarani: The Ransom Note Mix
Now let's close the year out in style... Marco Passarani is one of the best loved Italian producers and DJ's, he has released a wealth of material across decades and is regarded as an influential figure in house, disco and techno circles far and wide. His music has appeared on labels such as Offen Music, Running Back, Peacefrog, Numbers and many more. This is only his solo material, not to mention the wealth of music he has created as one half of the fun loving duo Tiger & Woods.
Marco's latest release is for the recently launched Italian label Unrelatable but there's talk of a big year and grand plans ahead for the celebrated producer. We saw no better way than to have him sign off our year in style with a fun mix of jackin' house and wandering arpeggios.
    Lock and load.

We invited him to talk about it and deliver a mix which he does so in fine form.

  • Lauri Soini: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix
Helsinki is a music scene which has grown in prominence and might over the years, Lauri Soini is a hugely active figure in the local community operating as a member of the team behind Flow festival and as a booker at reputable club Kaiku. He has also been a driving force behind the more eclectic party scene in the city for a long time and tells a tall tale of loft parties in towerblocks belonging to the Northern city.
From a musical perspective he is well versed, having dabbled in absolutely all sorts over a lifetime spent in dance and creative spaces. In the present he finds himself more attached to funk, soul, disco, boogie and Italo - the type of music which sounds great on a well built soundsystem and best accompanied by friends in the midst of the after hours.
We invited Lauri to record a mix which he does with good vibes aplenty and a nice interview to follow suit.

  • Cinnaman: The 'Shine A Light On' Mix
Yuri Boselie has been an integral figure in the Dutch electronic music scene for many years. Based in Amsterdam he has worked tirelessly holding down residencies at the likes of Club 11 and Trouw for many years and he now rules the roost at the infamous De School. He is closely affiliated with both the Dekmantel crew and Rush Hour and has crafted a unique take on dance and club focussed music by taking risks and playing whatever, whenever. You never know quite whar your going to get from one of his sets and over the years he has blown the roof off of clubs with curveball selections across the realm of house, techno, garage, hip hop and all the spaces in between.
As a producer he has worked with a number of labels and has released music both independently and collaboratively with the likes of Breach and Tom Trago. This Wednesday will also see him announce the launch of a brand new label. All of the above is tied up with a regular show on Red Light radio which acts as an outlet for his own experimentation and love of music.
On the 27th of December he will join a heavy hitting line up at XOYO as part of the Dekmantel Soundystem residency where he will play alongside Antal, Orpheu The Wizard and Interstellar Funk
We invited him to record a mix which he does in fine spirit.

  • Koehler: The Ransom Note Mix
Rounding off a busy week we have a showcase in hard hitting electronics and the experimental from one of our favourite producers of the moment, Koehler. Originating from Bristol but now based in Italy he has released an impressive array of material for the likes of Whities, ESP Institute, Berceuse Heroique, Skude, Die Orakel and many more.
His take on dance music is perhaps more abstract than most, utilising rough and ready soundscapes and layering the strange above driving percussion which has a profound and punchy impact on the dancefloor. It's powerful stuff. He is influenced by circumstance and there is a conceptual undercurrent which runs deep through his musical lineage. One that we love.
We invited Daniel to record a mix for the site and he didn't hold back. Trust us.

  • Calibre: The 'Monday Is Okay' Mix
Cold air hangs thick in the early days of December, winter is here and we have a soundtrack to accompany the tone.
Calibre is regarded as one of the most innovative and prolific producers within electronic music, over the years he has become a definitive figure in Drum & Bass, having elevated the genre in a way in which is celebrated and adored. Originating from Belfast he has recorded music which has tugged at the heartstrings, encouraging a new chain of thought associated with the sound. Albums like "Musique Concrete" and "Second Sun" remain some of the most crucial and important pieces of work to emerge from the Northern Irish producer and he is widely considered to be one of the most significant electronic artists of the past twenty years.
At the tail end of last week Dominick Martin released a new album through his own imprint, Signature Records. It showcases a change of pace for the producer as he focusses on ambient textures and the poignancy of life. It was recorded across a four year period following the passing of a close friend and as such a sombre, humble sense of honest self expression runs throughout. Titled "Planet Hearth" the album was written in Valentia on Ireland's west coast. It's a beautiful record which highlights his own approach to music and offers an insight into the soul of a musician who has contributed so much.
We are hugely honoured to be able to present a mix from Calibre which showcases ambient music, past and present.
