Those who hurt others to help themselves will be judged by the One who hurt Himself to help others.
I. Severe judgement is coming for the wicked who worship their wealth and oppress the righteous
A. The selfishly hoard their wealth
B. They hurt others to help themselves
C. They live self indulgent lives of luxury
D. They oppress and murder the righteous
II. God’s pronouncement of judgment upon these wealthy oppressors should challenge and comfort God’s people.
A. It challenges us to lay up treasure in heaven
- Questions for the heart
1. Is my spending motivated by a self indulgent pursuit of luxury or am I being a good steward of what God has entrusted to me?
2. Is my accumulation of wealth wise or am I placing my security in wealth?
3. Do I give consistently, cheerfully and generously for the good of the church and the advancement of the gospel?
B. It comforts us that we can place our trust in God
- there are 3 specific ways that this text shows us this
1. We can endure because God cares for us
2. We can trust God to bring about justice
3. We don’t have to fear judgement because Jesus took our place
- the question is have you surrendered your life to Him? Have you placed your trust in Him?

To presume you are in control of future outcomes without the humble recognition of God’s sovereignty over all things is arrogant and evil.
I. Arrogance is rooted in ignorance
A. We are not as smart as we think we are!
B. We are not even in control of our life
II. Humility is rooted in dependence
A. Our tongue tattles on our heart
B. Our speech must be marked by humility
III. The totality of Our lives must be rooted in complete dependence upon God.
A. Our plans must be made in dependence upon God
1. Begin everyday by acknowledging dependence upon God.
2. Acknowledge your dependence on God and your trust in God throughout the day.
3. Conduct yourself with dependent humility.
B. Our salvation must rest in full dependence upon God.
-True humility recognizes God’s sovereignty over all things and our dependence in all things.
