Ear Worms
I like the concept of this c.d. learning software a lot. I have used it and can say it definitely helps but to be sure to get the pronounciation correct it is best to have a Portuguese friend online to help verify sounds, and / or other software to listen and compare. It is a cool method to learn and I love the way it sounds music wise and rythmically. I am buying the French one for my 6 year old because she likes the Portuguese one so much and has already taken a couple years of french.
Focussed Learning to Get You Talking
I bought 3 beginner Portuguese guides and this is my favourite by far.
It is very relaxing to listen to and the music makes it a bit addictive! . It has adequate repetition so you can get the pronunciation down - I find this lacking in most other formats. The native/non-native combo is ideal. Sentences are broken down into short phrases, so sentences you think are beyond your capability are accessible. Another important quality: the content is perfect for travellers. You use your brain space to learn the important things and, most importantly, get you talking early. I don't need to learn every adjective, noun, verb etc.at this point. Very impressed. I am tempted to try some other languages just for fun.
Nice introduction to European Portuguese
This book is great for anyone who is traveling to Portugal. It gives a smattering of important phrases to help the traveler get around and communicate the basics.
easy and fun
This is such an easy way to learn the basics of a language, it's given me a lot more confidence in travelling. It just teaches phrases though so not the course for someone who wasn't a more emersed and in depth language experience
patronising but effective!
in really enjoyed this as an absolute beginner. if you can get past the mildly patronising format it is really really useful. and although I say patronising, that is really what you need when you start a new language.
