The snow has created a blank canvas to imagine new gardens. I discuss how I incorporate magic and spirit into the design of my garden to deepen my souls connection to place. Specifically the ancient tradition of leaving wild space for fairies and how it creates a resilient ecosystem.

In 2012 hurricane Sandy uprooted my life in the connecticut wetlands called wolf swamp. I reflect on the different feeling of living in a swamp covered over by subrubia and how the tempest took everything from me but allowed me to grow into a new more resilient version of myself.

Winter may seem like a time of death for gardens and food forests but it is actually a time filled with magic. I describe how I stay motivated in the winter months to garden and how the garden continues to be a source of magic and life all winter long.

I contraat my experiences working in a suburban and urban districts. One window small with blinds permanently shut. The other with bird feeders and deer passing by. One with supplies and support staff one with none. We can grow a better future but as with gardening it comes down to soil.
