As per recommendation from my friend Josh Randy of MOB Records, I’m proud to have a breakout musician on the podcast.

Ivan Hruska was born in Croatia and has lived in Germany, Canada, and The United States. Since Ivan was a child, the music of Guns ‘N’ Roses, Nirvana, Aerosmith, and punk rock influenced Ivan to be a songwriter and musician. The music of Hollywood Apocalypse embodies all the right influences with the right sound.

Ivan is also involved in the world of film, having helmed the psychological horror films “Blind” and “Pretty Boy.” Keep up with Ivan’s IMDB page to find out more about their film work.

I’m proud to have Princess Ivan on the show today to discuss their music of which I am a fan. Thanks, Ivan, for coming on to the podcast.

For almost 40 years, the music of Peter Steele, Carnivore and Type O Negative has been in the public consciousness. Peter was one of the most charismatic frontmen that ever graced a studio or a stage. Him and his band mates (Keith Alexander, Louie Beato, Kenny Hickey, Josh Silver, Sal Abruscato, and Johnny Kelly) are responsible for influencing generations of musicians, whether they be from his home city or Brooklyn (Life of Agony, Biohazard), or from Louisiana (Crowbar, or from overseas (Paradise Lost).

However, with great art, there will be admirers and those that want to censor it.

In this episode, I talk with Baron Misuraca of Carnivore A.D., who was friends with Peter when he founded Sheer Terror with Paul Bearer. In fact, the current members of Carnivore A.D. were all thanked in the “Retaliation” album (Baron in Sheer Terror, Chuck in The Crumbsuckers, and Joe in Whiplash), so there is legitimate history there, and there are songs in the Carnivore A.D. set list written by Peter that generate controversy today by those who judge the songs at face value without listening to the context and intent of the song.

Also, Baron and I discuss the idea of “Cancel Culture,” how it was around since the days of Igor Stravinsky in the early 20th Century, how it’s easy for a group that espouses negative viewpoints to adopt any symbol and change its meaning, and how he handles it. Also, we discuss how Peter himself may have handled it if he were still here.

Thank you to Baron Misuraca for partaking in this discussion, and thank you to Peter Steele for the music and the memories.

RIP Peter Thomas Ratajczyk - 1/4/62-4/14/10

A struggling painter falls in love with a muse who convinces him to abandon his dream and instead help her clarinet-playing ex-boyfriend who's old now.  Then when she tries to go home, he gets upset and tries to bash his head into a brick wall while wearing short shorts and roller skates, but ends up in an argument with Zeus in the dark.  Then everyone skates around for awhile until the movie is long enough for the credits to roll.  Listen to Tara J and Adam discuss the movie that launched the Razzies.
