God's appeases of the moon for her being made small - katan.(Chullin 60b) – by likewise calling the tzadikim - Yaakov, Shmuel, David - katan.
The world of din - created first - was a frozen world. The introduction of rachamim into the world is the introduction of dynamism, of the capacity for growth and development – the capacity for returning to the womb and re-emerging.
Man has a unique existential incompleteness, a question mark hanging over creation, which is reflected in a unique ability to define his own identity. Man himself embodies the dynamism of rachamim
God needs man's korban. The New Moon korban was "for God," a healing of the rift created by the moon's diminishment.
Man has a uniquely powerful participation in existence, and uniquely reciprocal relationship with his Creator.
The emergence of Nukva - of woman - is the birth of subjectivity.
Subjectivity's challenge - separation/alienation.
Speech as personal expression must be coupled with de'ah - a connective consciousness.
The Alter Rebbe – the Baal Hatanya - first Rebbe of Chabad – was named Shne'ur Zalman, expressing through his name his role in bringing peace (Zalman is Yiddish of Shlomo) between the two lights (Shnei Or) - the sun and the moon, masculine and feminine, the Godly soul and the animal soul. (This shiur was given on 24 Tevet -the Yahrzheit of Shne’ur Zalman.)
"There were no greater days in Israel than the fifteenth of Av and Yom Kippur..."Go out, maidens of Jerusalem, and look on King Solomon, and on the crown with which his mother has crowned him..." Mishna Taanith 4:8
It's the woman - the mother - Batsheva and Ruth - who crowns the king, repairing the rift created by the moon. It’s the moon which first manifests the consciousness of "using" the crown, a consciousness which results in 'memshalah' - rulership - over day and night.
This fruit-oriented consciousness is mirrored by Chavah, resulting in Adam being memshal over her.
