A Raven's Ramblings Life Update
Well... life has been life-ing. 😂
If you've noticed that Raven's Ramblings has been a little quieter lately, I promise I haven't disappeared. Between work, going back to school, trying to be a functioning adult, and attempting to keep all the plates spinning without launching one across the room... things have been a little chaotic.
So this episode is exactly what the name of this podcast promises:
I'm rambling.
No carefully researched witchcraft topic. No lesson. No script. Just me sitting down, turning on the microphone, and catching up with you about what's been happening in my world, where I've been, and why the podcast hasn't been getting quite as much attention lately.
Sometimes life changes the rhythm of our practice, our creativity, and the things we love doing. That doesn't mean we've abandoned them.
Sometimes we're just busy surviving the chapter we're in.
So grab some coffee, get comfortable, and come hang out with me for a little while.
I'm still here.
I'm still witchy.
And I've still got plenty of stories to tell.
Stay curious. Stay wild. And stay witchy.
Do you actually need an altar to practice witchcraft?
Short answer: No.
Longer answer? That's what we're talking about in this episode of The Raven's Grimoire.
Altars are everywhere in modern witchcraft, especially online. Beautiful candles, crystals, statues, herbs, antique bottles, and perfectly arranged witchy treasures can make it seem like creating an altar is one of the first requirements for becoming a witch.
But what is an altar actually for?
In this episode, we're talking about what an altar is, why you might want one, the difference between an altar and a shrine, what you can put on an altar, and why yours doesn't have to look anything like the elaborate spaces you see on social media.
We'll also talk about temporary altars, hidden altars, travel altars, outdoor altars, and what to do when you simply don't have the space, privacy, money, or desire for one.
Because your altar can be an elaborate sacred space...
Or a candle on your nightstand.
It can fit inside a tiny tin.
It can exist on your kitchen table for twenty minutes.
Or you can have no altar at all.
The altar isn't what makes you a witch. Your practice does.

Protection. Cleansing. Warding.
They're three of the most common words you'll hear in modern witchcraft... but they're often used as if they all mean the same thing.
They don't.
In this episode of The Beginner's Grimoire, we're breaking down the differences between cleansing, protection, and warding in a simple, practical way that's perfect for beginners and a great refresher for experienced practitioners.
We'll explore:
• What cleansing is (and what it isn't)
• How protection differs from warding
• Why wards are meant for places, not people
• Simple examples you can incorporate into your own practice
• Why magic is more like everyday self-care than dramatic movie spells
If you've ever wondered when to cleanse, when to protect yourself, or when to refresh the wards around your home, this episode will help you build a stronger foundation for your practice.
Because sometimes the most powerful magic isn't the most dramatic...
It's simply knowing which tool to use.
Have you ever heard witches say, "Don't forget to ground yourself," and wondered what that actually means?
In this episode of Raven's Ramblings, we're taking the mystery out of one of the most common pieces of witchcraft advice. We'll explore what grounding really is, why it's helpful before and after magical work, and simple ways to practice it without complicated rituals or visualizations.
Whether you're brand new to witchcraft or you've been practicing for years, grounding is less about fancy techniques and more about reconnecting with yourself. This beginner-friendly conversation will help you understand the purpose behind grounding and show you that there isn't just one "right" way to do it.
So grab your favorite cup of coffee, get comfortable, and let's talk about one of the simplest and most important skills every witch can learn.
In this episode:
• What grounding actually means
• Why witches practice grounding
• Simple grounding techniques anyone can use
• Common myths about grounding
• Grounding before and after spellwork
• Why being present is one of the most magical things you can do

In EP 64 of Raven's Ramblings, we're taking a journey into the world of witch bottles, the protective folk magic practices that inspired many of today's spell jars. We'll explore where these mysterious bottles came from, why they were hidden inside walls and beneath hearths, what people actually put inside them (spoiler: it wasn't always herbs and crystals!), and how these traditions evolved into the magical tools many witches use today.
Whether you're new to witchcraft or you've been practicing for years, this episode is a reminder that magic has always been deeply personal, practical, and rooted in the everyday lives of ordinary people.
Grab your favorite drink, get comfortable, and let's ramble.
In This Episode:• The history of witch bottles• How spell jars evolved over time• Folk magic and protective practices• Why hearths and thresholds were considered magical• Modern spell jars vs. historical witch bottles• What today's witches can learn from the past

EP 63: The Difference Between Practice and Performance
Have you ever looked at another witch's altar online and thought, "Maybe I'm not doing enough?"
In this episode of Raven's Ramblings, we're talking about the difference between living a spiritual practice and performing one. Social media often shows us beautiful rituals, perfect altars, and aesthetic moments, but real witchcraft usually happens in the quiet spaces nobody else sees.
Join me as we explore authenticity, spiritual consumerism, night-shift witchcraft, imperfect practice, and why your witch card doesn't get revoked just because life gets busy.
Because magic isn't something you prove.
It's something you live.
Topics Covered:• Authentic vs performative spirituality• Social media and modern witchcraft• Everyday magical practice• The pressure to be a "perfect" witch• Spiritual connection over aesthetics• Why ordinary witchcraft matters
If this episode resonates with you, be sure to like, subscribe, and share it with a fellow witch who needs the reminder that they are enough.
Growth isn't always dramatic.
Sometimes it's signing up for the class, going to the gym, posting the video, having the difficult conversation, or taking the first shaky step toward something you've been avoiding.
In this episode of Raven's Ramblings, Raven explores the strange space between safety and growth, why comfort zones aren't the enemy, and how real transformation often begins with uncertainty. Through personal reflections, witchcraft wisdom, and a healthy dose of Southern honesty, this episode is a reminder that courage isn't the absence of fear. It's moving forward anyway.
If you've been waiting for permission, certainty, or the perfect moment, this episode is for you.
Have you ever realized three days after Beltane that you completely forgot it was Beltane?
Or watched everyone else's beautiful Sabbat celebrations online while you were just trying to survive another week?
You're not alone.
In this episode of Raven's Ramblings: Musings of a Southern Witch, Raven talks about the guilt many witches feel when they miss Sabbats, skip rituals, or simply don't have the time or energy to celebrate every turn of the Wheel of the Year.
Together we'll explore why social media can make us feel like we're falling behind, why spirituality isn't a performance, and why missing a Sabbat doesn't make you a bad witch.
Because sometimes life gets busy. Sometimes survival comes first. And sometimes you skip the Sabbats...
...and nothing explodes.
🖤 Grab your favorite drink, get comfortable, and let's talk about giving ourselves a little grace.
In this episode of Raven’s Ramblings, we’re talking about witchy red flags, spiritual manipulation, fear-based practices, aesthetic “gurus,” and the absolute nonsense that sometimes creeps into modern witchcraft spaces.
From “you’re cursed” scams and chosen-one syndrome to obsession spell weirdness and spiritual sales tactics, Raven dives into the warning signs that deserve a little healthy side-eye… with humor, honesty, and a reminder that discernment is just as important as intuition.
Because spirituality should empower you… not leave you emotionally spiraling at 2am because someone named MoonShadow RavenFire said your aura looks suspicious.
Grab your tea, your favorite crystal, and your common sense. This one gets spicy.
People often talk about becoming a witch to reclaim their power.
But what if witchcraft wasn’t about power at all?
In this deeply personal episode of Raven’s Ramblings, I talk about growing up feeling disconnected from myself, finding safety in the woods, surviving trauma, learning to trust my intuition again, and how witchcraft became more than aesthetics or ritual… it became survival.
This episode explores the quieter side of the craft: healing, boundaries, identity, grief, intuition, and the slow process of rebuilding yourself after life teaches you to disappear.
Because sometimes magic isn’t about becoming someone new.
Sometimes it’s about finally finding the pieces of yourself that were buried all along.
So light a candle, settle in, and join me for one of the most personal episodes of Raven’s Ramblings yet.
