This week on the Raw Islam Podcast with Imam Azhar – a 2017 Podcast Award nominated podcast,we have a question for our listeners – Where do you feel safe?

According to ABC 15 out of Arizona there have been 317 mass shootings in 2017 thus far, and we say thus far because sadly, the year isn’t over with yet. But, these shooting shave taken place in schools, places of worship, places of work, and more.

There was the shooting that took place in Sutherland, TX; in 2015 Dylann Roof committed a mass shooting in Shelby North Carolina. There was a mass shooting a country music concert this year; and the number of shootings that have taken place at schools is so high that on November 14th 2017 five people were killed in and around an Elementary School and it hardly made a blip on the national news – this is a sign of how common place these events have become, and it is sad.

Beyond these mass shootings there are also the nutjobs that profess to be Muslim and followers of Islam that commit acts of violence – and as an aside here we have said over and over that these acts are not related to Islam and we denounce any kind of violence, it doesn’t matter if it is in the name of a religion or just some loan wolf – violence is never the answer.

All of this brings us to the question that if mass acts of violence can take place while we ride our bikes down the street, while we go out for the night, while we go to the movies, while we go to our places of worship – then where are we safe? Where can we go with our families to feel secure?
