“It’s very interesting, I haven’t seen that before,” said Brandon Williamson, a land management technician with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority who’s often called upon to respond to sightings of coyotes and coyote attacks.

“Some questions come to mind. Did the owner put any attractant on the ball to sort of get the coyote to get after it? Or is it just an incident where the coyote is curious about things?”

“It’s the first time that Next City’s Vanguard conference will take place outside of the United States,” said Prof Kyle Matthews. “It’s very interesting that are going to be able to create new networks for the city, link up with some of the top thought leaders but also have them really try to help us move our city ahead in the 21st century.”

“It’s a huge circus, Davos has become the probably one of the largest shows in the world when it comes to bringing luminaries of from all places of the world,” said Prof. Ferry de Kerckhove. “In terms of networking I don’t think there is a better place in the world: you’ve got everybody who’s somebody that is there.”

“Although they have learned a lot of skills from us, I think we have learned equally as much from them about the type of threat they face on the front lines,” says Lt.-Col. Jason Guiney, commander of Joint Task Force Ukraine. “What they are facing is what we refer to as a hybrid threat; so it’s a mix of conventional tactics, insurgency tactics coupled with modern technology. There are modern main battle tanks, electronic warfare, jamming, use of drones, cyber attacks, and these are all valuable lessons for the Canadian military because these are threats that we have not faced ourselves.”

Mary Schulz of the Alzheimer Society says the stigma around dementia is sometimes worse than the diagnosis.

“Right now it really is a good news story, but just because they are doing well, it doesn’t mean we should be complacent,” said Christopher Debicki, Projects Director for The Pew Charitable Trusts’ Oceans North Canada. “So we’re encouraging both the provincial government of Manitoba as well as the federal government to take additional steps to ensure that this population stays healthy going forward.”

Prof. Ross Finnie says immigrants to Canada are more likely to get a higher education regardless of their parents’ income or educational levels.

“What we’re going to receive and get for this technology is the ability to survey the entire space station,” said Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

“This is very exciting, this shows once again how Canada is well-positioned in those kind of technologies, and is providing expertise to make sure that the station is safe,” Stephane Desjardins said. “We’ve provided Canadarm2 that is currently and constantly being used to maintain the station, so this type of vision system will continue in the same vein.”
