“Don’t Cut the School Counselors”

Song Produced by: Shammy Dee and Ruben Escobar

Vocals: Shammy Dee

A few laws conducted by school counselors:

AB 469 - state mandate for financial aid; provide financial aid information to 11th graders; monitor lists and reports for 12th grader financial aid completion rates - all 12th graders must submit a financial aid application or opt-out form.

Ed Code 215 + AB 2246 - conducting mental health and suicide prevention lessons to 9th graders

SB 224 - teaching mental health curriculum to 9th graders

Lyrics to Song:

Yeah… Stand Up… One Time… Come on.

Counselors in schools are truly vital,

They’re helpful to kids and their survival.

You go in to talk, (yeah), they see your potential, (yeah),

They’ve got a Master’s and a P.P.S credential.

Wake up California… Oh, Ooh-na-na-naaah!

Don’t cut the School Counselors,

No, don’t do it no more.

They talk about school and they talk about strife,

Academics, career, and personal life.

When you have a need or get in a fight,

Your school counselor will set things right.

Wake up California… Oh, Ooh-na-na-naaah!

Don’t cut the School Counselors,

No, don’t do it no more.

Mention A - G and their eyes open wide,

They’ll do what they can so your classes coincide.

If you laugh or cry, (yeah), or needin’ a snack, (yeah),

Don’t have no fear they’ve got your back.

Wake up California… Oh, Ooh-na-na-naaah!

Don’t cut the School Counselors,

No, don’t do it no more

Without counselors kids’ll be in a bubble,

With nowhere to go when they’re in trouble.

If you want the kids to graduate,

Better keep the ones who settin’ them straight.

Sayin’ wake up California… Oh, Ooh-na-na-naaah!

Don’t cut the School Counselors,

No, don’t do it no more

Sayin’ wake up California… Oh, Ooh-na-na-naaah!

Don’t cut the School Counselors,

No, don’t do it no mo’!
