A re-release of one of our most popular episodes; The little things. In 2019 Marisol and Adam each chose 5 little things(or pet-peeves) that the other one did and got two minutes to state their case as to why that other person should stop doing that thing. The couple debates little things from showing up to the dinner table late (and making a once hot dinner, now cold) to showing up to parties too early and denying a grand entrance. All couples have small habits that annoy their partner and Adam and Marisol use this opportunity to air some grievances. What "little things" does your partner do that annoy you?

Marisol notes that she does not like talking about her fertility, that it feels deeply personal and that she is nervous about talking about it publicly. Three years later and the Marisol and Adam have grown to talk about fertility, infertility, making babies, IVF and the surrogate process a whole lot! Join us as we listen back on pt. 1 of our fertility series. This was the first time we put out a deeply personal episode related to growing our family and adding children into our lives.
This episode originally aired on 11/21/2019 and for those doing the math, we gave birth to Neo Luther 4/21/2021 so this was not the end of our journey for sure, but it was great insight to where we were emotionally in the process. It was the first time we had started dabbling our toes into the medical side of fertility and had started taking letrozole with our cycle.
As we have spent the last season navigating our next fertility journey it feels important to walk back in time to when we first started recording and publicly speaking about our fertility journey with Neo. It was a long road that ended in our now two year-olds life. As we take a small break in putting out new episodes (we have not stopped recording) we are navigating a new kind of fertility journey again as we move forward with a surrogate carrying our embryo from our first cycle of IVF. I hope you enjoy this step back in time.

Being a parent is hard enough without the harsh judgement of friends, family, or total strangers. Marisol and Adam discuss Neo's upcoming 2nd birthday party, "the second biggest night in fashion" a baby MET Gala, and the judgement that may surround the night. Big updates on the next step in surrogacy and how they have experienced sharing that news with others and the feeling of the "fertility journey" coming to the end as they hope to wrap up the "family building" phase of their life and the complicated feelings that come along with those decisions.

As Marisol and Adam move forward with surrogacy, Marisol recounts the feelings of grief and loss she is experiencing at this otherwise joyful and exciting time. The couple went out of town this weekend with their son, Neo and noted that it felt like Neo had recently taken a large developmental leap. They both shared how he felt more connected to Marisol more cuddly than ever before. Adding to your family and having a second child is a happy and good thing, but the underside of that is the feeling that you are abandoning your "only child." Changing your family structure again, just as things feel like they are leveling out can come with a host of emotions and the couple share where they are each at with this.

Take the red pill or the blue pill... fantasizing about how your life might look if you weren't with the person you married, or if you didn't have kids, or if you never took that job offer. Perfectly normal and healthy form of escapism or a hurtful practice towards your partner? Marisol and Adam discuss the times where they feel distance from one another and what role escapism plays in resetting their togetherness or continues to push the pattern of separateness along. whether it is zoning out on the couch instead of actually reconnecting, nitpicking the others non-verbal cues as they zone out (or tune in) to what the other is saying, and letting their mind wonder the "what-ifs" of life, Marisol and Adam cover it all in this high tension episode.

Is communication less about the gender binary and more about functional communication vs. expressive communication? Marisol and Adam received lots of comments about the episode "do men and women text differently" so they decided to revisit the conversation. How does American or Western culture limit our language or behavior in relationships? Is texting a way to get out of a phone call or an additional form of communication all together? How do we read into texts, lose things in translation, and limit our ability to deeply connect using the written word? All of this and more on this weeks episode!
