CHANGE BEFORE IT'STOO LATE

Our meditation today isthe entitled: Change Before It's too Late. Today the Church celebrates thememorial of the virgin and martyr St. Lucy. She is the patron saint for peoplewho suffer from eye sickness, vision problems, and bleeding diseases. The nameLucy means light, or light bearer. Lucy was the bearer of light and maintainedthat light until her death. She stands for the very strong sign of this seasonof Advent.

All our attention atthis time is waiting that is filled with preparations for the coming of theLord. It is very difficult for us to think about all the preparations that takeplace in darkness. Lack of lighting or fire that flames will make a life sodifficult and in fear. The source of light such as electricity and fire are sovital for our lives, especially during night times.

In Christian witness,Lucy had made Christ her true spouse tho whom she found a fullness of life inthe kingdom of God, whose purpose is to build a new heaven and a new earth. What Lucy has shown was also done by the prophet Elijah in the Old Testamentbefore the coming of Jesus Christ. Elijah had a revolutionary spirit that wasnot found in other people of his time. According to the book of Sirach intoday's first reading, Elijah really appeared like a fire that burnt and removedthose who were in contrary with God.

The Jews, includingJesus' disciples, assumed that prophet Elijah had incarnated in John theBaptist, who also had a revolutionary character. Even though Jesus Christ was presentin their midst as the greatest Reformer and who also is the Teacher and Lord forElijah, John the Baptist and Lucy, they still remain confused about the existenceand importance of Jesus. In and with Jesus Christ, they actually carried thesame message to us and the world that says: change before it's too late.

Our experiences inthis world show that change before it's too late is an advice and hope thatnever outdated. Every time and in every place this advice applies to everyone. For example a heavy smoker, wherever he is, whether inside or outside the house, there is always a warning to him to abandon the habit. Because if one day he isdiagnosed of lung cancer or stroke, he will be ultimately considered too lateto change.

In connection withthis period of Advent, the reminder to do preparation also has importnat meaningon the command of not too late to renew ourselves before God comes as wewelcome Him in faith and He wishes to save us.

Let's pray. In the name of the Father... Almighty Father, refresh and strengthen us who have difficulty or areimpeded to renew ourselves, that we soon find the way for change. Glory to theFather and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit ... In the name of the Father ...
