In this episode of the Reading Roundtable Series from Creative Consulting — The Podcast, we’re looking at what should happen after we make implementation visible.
Walkthroughs, coaching visits, and classroom observations can give us important information — but only if we use what we notice to strengthen instruction rather than simply document whether a practice occurred.
In this episode, we explore how teachers, coaches, principals, and district leaders can move from look-fors to meaningful support by asking:
• What are the essential teacher actions?
• What are students actually experiencing and doing?
• What evidence is available close to instruction?
• Is the implementation need related to clarity, capability, conditions, or responsiveness?
• What support would make the greatest difference next?
We also look at why a walkthrough should go beyond asking, “Did I see the strategy?” and instead consider a more useful question:
What did students experience — and what support would strengthen this next?
Strong literacy instruction is not about adding more. It is about making the practices that matter most clearer, stronger, and more consistent.
