In 1 Samuel 16:1–13, we witness the quiet but sovereign work of God as He sends Samuel to anoint David as king. Saul had been rejected, and the Lord now turns His focus to a young shepherd—unimpressive by the world's standards, but chosen by God. Samuel, like many of us, is prone to look at what's visible—strength, height, charisma. But the Lord declares in verse 7: "For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart." God chooses David not because of his status, but because of his heart. This is the beginning of a remarkable journey in redemptive history, pointing us forward to Jesus Christ, the greater Son of David—our perfect King, Shepherd, and Savior. As we reflect on this passage, let's ask: What kind of heart does the Lord delight in? Do we trust in what we see, or in what God has promised? How does God's choice of David encourage us to rest in Christ? This episode will encourage you to trust God's wisdom, look beyond appearances, and remember that God often works through the unexpected to accomplish His sovereign plan. 🎧 Subscribe to Reading the Bible Daily with Dave: Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/reading-the-bible-daily-with-dave/id1716309064 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Gx6mWqVmPCzvMKUZRkVAD YouTube: https://youtube.com/servantsofgrace.org Full Archive: https://servantsofgrace.org/reading-the-bible-daily-with-dave/ 🙏 Thank you for listening or watching this episode of Reading the Bible Daily with Dave.
