Readyforthedraft.com's Gregg Schutze shares his passion for the NFL draft and takes you on a journey leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.
College football is officially here! What did we learn from Week 1? Shedeur Sanders, Jordan Travis and Riley Leonard have entered the conversation for the No. 3 QB in the draft with Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix behind Caleb Williams and Drake Maye. Keon Coleman has emerged as WR2 while Olu Fashanu's freakish athleticism may have him firmly entrenched in the top 5 and Laiatu Latu is likely EDGE2 after a three-sack performance against Coastal Carolina. I break down what I saw in the 24 games I was able to watch Friday-Monday of Labor Day Weekend.

Week 0 of the College Football season is in the books. Caleb Williams had an easy day at the office showcasing the arm talent that makes him the top QB prospect in this year's draft. Sam Hartman had a successful debut for the Fighting Irish. Hartman may not wow you with the arm strength and athleticism, but his veteran leadership gives off some Brock Purdy vibes.
This podcast was recorded on Thursday 8/31 after those games were played, so I talk about what I saw from the likes of Tyler Nubin, Jeff Sims. Brennan Armstrong, Jackson Mitchell, John Celiscar and Tylan Grable, among others.
I also break down what to expect for the remaining Week 1 games on tap for Friday through Monday, including the highly-anticipated rematch between LSU and Florida State. Who will win the QB batle between Jayden Daniels and Jordan Travis? What type of impact can Trey Benson have? Will Jared Verse be the dominant force we expect him to be?

It's time to begin breaking down the conference matchups and identify the draft-eligible prospects playing a key role. I'll also give my thoughts on how those prospects will position each team during the season. It's time to talk about the Pac-12 which is in its final season of its existence as we know it. The Conference of Champions is no more as eight teams will be playing in a different conference in 2024. But if 2023 is the final year for the Pac-12, it's going to be quite the swan song as the conference may be at its deepest among QB in quite some time. Caleb Williams was the Heisman Trophy winner in 2022 but feels like there is unfinished business at USC. Then there's Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, Cam Rising, DJ Uiagalelei, Shedeur Sanders, Cameron Ward and Jayden De Laura. That's a deep group of QB. Make sure you keep your focus on the west coast this season because the competition will be at its highest it has been in quite some time.

I'll also give my thoughts on how those prospects will position each team during the season. The focus shifts to the ACC where it's expected that Florida State will give Clemson a run at the top of the conference. Jordan Travis is primed for a big year on offense while Jared Verse can cement his status as a top-10 pick. Clemson counters with a top defense with the duos of Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Barrett Carter at LB and Tyler Davis and Ruke Orhorohoro at DT. But the guy to watch in the ACC is Drake Maye, a legit Heisman frontrunner and a shoe-in as either the 1st or 2nd pick of the draft as Maye and Caleb Williams will battle it out all season to see who will hear their name called first.

It's time to begin breaking down the conference matchups and identify the draft-eligible prospects playing a key role. I'll also give my thoughts on how those prospects will position each team during the season. Episode 4 focuses on the Big XII, a conference once thought to be in trouble but now brings in four new teams for the 2023 season and is set to bring in anothr four next year. 2023 is also the final season for Texas and Oklahoma in the Big XII before they depart for the SEC. Quinn Ewers has a chance to be a top three QB, Devin Neal deserves consideration as a top draft-eligible RB, Xavier Worthy has a shot at the 1st Round as does Cooper Beebe. Defensively, keep an eye on Barryn Sorrell, Ethan Downs, Reggie Grimes, Collin Oliver and Rondell Bothroyd pressuring the QB, Dontay Corleone, Ricky Barber, Tony Bradford, Jaylon Hutchings and T'Vondre Sweat along the interior, Jaylan Ford and Danny Stutsman flying around and making plays at LB, with Josh Newton, Cobee Bryant, TJ Tampa, Jalen Catalon and Kenny Logan Jr. patrolling the back end of the defense.

I'll also give my thoughts on how those prospects will position each team during the season. It's time to take a look at the Big 10, a conference that has made noise during the offseason by adding Oregon and Washington to a new roster that already includes USC and UCLA for 2024. In the final season with 14 teams, the question is are you Team Ohio State or Team Michigan? Ohio State has so many draft-eligible prospects worthy of consideration in the first two days of the draft, including two, Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, as potential top-10 picks. Michigan has a proven commodity at QB in JJ McCarthy, who has a shot to be the 3rd QB off the board in April. The Wolverines will boast one of the nation's top running games with a line that has six NFL-worthy OL and two RB's who could come off the board early on Day 2 of the draft in Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. Who will emerge from the West Division? Will it be Iowa with its vaunted defense and an improved offense led by former Wolverine Cade McNamara? Or will Luke Fickell and Phil Longo be able to change the game offensively in Wisconsin to position the Badgers as a contender? Will Nebraska and Purdue be much improved under Matt Rhule and Ryan Walters?

It's time to begin breaking down the conference matchups and identify the draft-eligible prospects playing a key role. I'll also give my thoughts on how those prospects will position each team during the season. We'll start with the SEC, where back-to-back champs Georgia and Alabama appear to be at the top of their respective divisions, but the rest of the conference will be breathing down their necks. With Stetson Bennett IV and Bryce Young off to the NFL, both the Dawgs and the Tide will be introducing new starting QB's to the fold, meaning Jayden Daniels, KJ Jefferson, Joe Milton, Spencer Rattler and Devin Leary will be battling it out to be the top QB prospect. Is Malik Nabers the conference's top WR? Can Dallas Turner and Kool-Aid McKinstry solidify their status as top-10 picks? What about Brock Bowers and JC Latham?

We've made it through the summer and it's time for the 2023 College Football Season! Episode 1 takes a quick look at which draft-eligible prospects to be keeping an eye on as the season begins. We know that Caleb Williams and Drake Maye will likely be dueling to be the 1st overall pick in the draft with Marvin Harrison Jr. and Olu Fashanu not far behind. But taking it a step further, an early review of this draft class reveals an offense-heavy top 10. In addition to the aforementioned trio, you have to expect OT's Joe Alt and JC Latham, TE Brock Bowers, WR Emeka Egbuka and QB's Bo Nix, Michael Penix, Jr. and even Quinn Ewers will be in consideration to come off the board at the top of the draft. Defensively, on the other hand, the only sure bets appear to be EDGE defenders Jared Verse and Dallas Turner along with CB Kool-Aid McKinstry. DT Maason Smith is the other name to watch out for if he can rebound from the devastating knee injury sustained during the first game last year against Florida State. Clemson LB's Barrett Carter and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. also deserve some attention early, but do they have the requisite size to be considered a top-10 pick?

Now that the 2023 NFL Draft cycle is in the books, it's time for a look ahead. The final two podcasts of the 2023 Podcast Series will focus on looking into the future and the 2024 NFL Draft class. Episode 37 will be dedicated to the offensive side of the ball, where the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Marvin Harrison Jr., Brock Bowers, Olu Fashanu, Joe Alt and JC Latham will dominate the conversation. However, I take try to mention at least ten players at each position for you to be on the lookout for when the 2023 college football season begins.
