Ready, Row! USA - Show Notes for 12/17/2018
For this episode, we have the honor of hosting Arshay Cooper (2:07) of Row New York and Mark Wilson (12:20) of the All American Rowing Camp for a recap of the recent US Rowing convention in San Diego, where they both presented.
* Arshay Cooper covers the dynamic new Inclusion/Diversity (4:50) track at USR and the impact & innovations of the USR I&D (7:00) programs he's involved with, like Row New York and his Waterside Chats, where he mentors managers of inclusive programs (26:00). At the end, he talks about an exciting collaboration with director and Olympian Mary Mazzio for a documentary of "Suga Water." (26:21) Arshay invoked a rowing metaphor when receiving the Anita DeFranz Award in 2017: "It's okay to look back as long as you keep moving forward." (15:44)
* Mark Wilson brings us a message from US Rowing's new CEO Patrick McNerney (13:00) and news from Coastal Rowing Initiative (14:33), the Indoor Rowing National Championships (14:21), and a new organization called the Rowing Industry Trade Association (RITA) which seeks to involve manufacturers and vendors in developing the sport of rowing and supporting current USR initiatives.
