Episode 41: How to Feel Your Feelings

Sometimes, the last thing we want to do is feel our feelings.  They can be downright uncomfortable.  They can hurt.

Today, I'm talking about why feeling your feelings and letting them move through you is SO important.  Every feeling has a message.  Sometimes that message is to just sit with the feeling until it dissipates.  Sometimes, the message is guiding you toward taking action.

Episode 40

Today, I'm talking about the quote "How we do one thing is how we do everything".

What this means is that the beliefs we have in one area of our life tend to be similar in all areas of our life, causing us to repeat similar patterns across all of those areas.

So, it's important to check the stories and beliefs you have, as well as the belief in YOURSELF and your ability to make changes in your life.

It's also important to know that in order to make changes, you need to BELIEVE that you can achieve those results BEFORE you have any evidence that you can.

As well, you'll need to work toward becoming the person who has already achieved his/her result.  You'll need to think, act and believe like the person who has already had that transformation. 

This all comes back to paying attention to your beliefs and patterns and knowing that they are likely showing up in multiple areas.

This is why coaching is so helpful.  We all have blind spots that we just can't see ourselves.  As a coach, it's my job to point those out to my clients.  It's also my job to hold the belief that they can achieve the result they're after until they can believe it themselves.

It's transformational and life-changing work.

In this episode, I talk about the danger of getting comfortable with the word "normal".

Our idea of normal is what we're comfortable with and is based on beliefs we've inherited from childhood and accumulated from society and the media as we've grown up.  When we identify as "normal", we're excluding a huge group of other unique, amazing individuals from our world, and we're also excluded from other worlds when we're not considered normal.

Start to notice how "normal" pops up in your world.  How do you think it impacts your ability to relate to other people who are out of your usual circles? How do you feel excluded for not feeling "normal".

On this episode, I'm talking about the unattainable standards that perfectionists set for themselves and how this is approaching self-improvement from a place of "not enough" or scarcity rather than self-love.

It's possible to love something and still want to change it - you don't have to keep a drill sergeant in your brain to "whip yourself into shape".  Perfectionists tend to think if they lose their super-high standards, they'll make mistakes, fail, be judged, "let themselves go", get fat or get out of shape. 

Not so! Those are just thoughts your brain thinks and you can change those unhelpful thought patterns.  Listen to this episode to learn how.

Episode 36

In this episode of Real, Brave & Unstoppable, I talk about how changing your thoughts can create better outcomes or results in your life.

When you experience something, it's a circumstance - a fact.  Our brain then assigns it a meaning. We think something about it.   Our thought causes an emotion, which causes us to act a certain way.  The way we act determines our outcome.

If your thoughts are getting in your way, the good news is that you can change them.  You can decide what you want to think, on purpose.  This takes some practice, of course, but you can learn all about it in this episode.

Episode 34:

We're faced with many "forks in our paths" in our lifetimes.  Sometimes we choose a path that feels like the "right" choice, and sometimes we choose one that's more difficult.

In this episode, I talk about a recent hiking experience where I reached a fork in the trail.  But I didn't stop to take in all of the information so I'd know which way was the right way. I didn't have cell signal, so I couldn't tell where I was on the trail so I took a wrong turn.  My instinct told me to go one way, but my instinct was wrong.

This is a lesson that can be applied to life.  First, it's good to stop and think before making decisions.  Second, it's helpful to have a compass or something to guide you - your values.  And finally, if you do end up taking a wrong turn, it's not the end of the world.  You'll grow and learn from the lessons the "wrong way" provides.

Episode 32: Goals and Creating YOUR 2021 Experience

It's almost here! The new year.  2021.  A fresh start, a clean slate!

In today's episode, I talk about setting goals in the new year.  Not your ordinary goal-setting process.  Often, people set goals that are kind of random and sound great, but they aren't really aligned with what's important to them.  So, they lose interest and don't follow through.

In my approach, we dig into some questions that are heart-centered - questions like:  What do you want more of this year? What do you want less of? What's important to you and why? How do you want to FEEL in 2021?  What if 2021 isn't better on the outside?  How can you create a good experience for yourself so that every day has some good in it?
