1) Compassion does something.

In Deuteronomy, Moses challenged God’s people to remember His instructions and His faithfulness. Like the Israelites, we can easily forget what God has done. But when we remember how He has provided, protected, and carried us in the past, we can trust Him with whatever comes next.

Sometimes we're not exhausted because we have too much to do. We're exhausted because we haven't decided what matters most. In Luke 10, Martha wasn't distracted by something bad—she was distracted by something good that was pulling her away from something better. Jesus invites us to radically reprioritize our lives by recognizing what's distracting, releasing what's draining, and retaining what's best.

Last week we discovered that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and were created for God's glory and His mission. This week we learned that our appetites are not evil, but they become dangerous when they are elevated to a place of authority in our lives. God created our appetites to be servants, not masters. When we bring every appetite under the lordship of Christ, our bodies, minds, and spirits become better equipped to fulfill His purpose.

Our culture tends to do one of two things with the body: worship it or neglect it. God calls us to neither extreme. Instead, He calls us to steward our bodies because they belong to Him. As followers of Jesus, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, purchased by Christ, and designed to glorify God. Stewarding our physical health isn't about appearance—it's about increasing our capacity to love God, serve others, and fulfill His mission.

In Ruth 4, Boaz demonstrates what covenant faithfulness truly costs. His sacrifice points us to Jesus, our greater Redeemer, who gave everything to redeem us. When we choose to go all in for Christ, our lives become part of God’s greater story. Like Ruth and Boaz, ordinary acts of covenant faithfulness can leave a legacy that shapes generations to come.

What does it really mean to wait on God? Ruth 3 shows us that waiting isn’t always passive—it’s an active faith. Sometimes faith looks like faithfully doing the ordinary work God has placed before us. Other times it means taking a courageous step of obedience. And sometimes it means resting and trusting God to do what only He can do. Ruth’s journey reminds us that God prepares us in the waiting, meets us in our obedience, and faithfully brings about His purposes in His perfect timing.

In Ruth 2, what looks like coincidence is actually God’s providence at work. As Ruth faithfully takes ordinary next steps, God quietly orchestrates one of the most significant moments in redemptive history. This message explores the relationship between God’s sovereignty and human responsibility, revealing how God accomplishes His purposes through ordinary people taking ordinary steps of faithfulness.

When life doesn’t make sense, faithfulness can feel costly and even unreasonable. In Ruth 1, Naomi is overwhelmed by grief, while Ruth chooses covenant faithfulness without knowing what the future holds. What seems like one small act of obedience becomes part of God’s redemptive story for generations to come.

This message explores how pain can narrow our vision, how hesed calls us beyond self-protection, and how God may be writing a bigger story than we can see. Ruth reminds us that even in seasons of loss and uncertainty, ordinary faithfulness matters.

Over the past several weeks, we've discovered that following Jesus is about becoming the people He has called us to be. We are ambassadors who represent Christ everywhere we go. We are people of prayer, authenticity, Scripture, and community. We rely on the Holy Spirit to empower us, embrace God's transforming work in our lives, live on mission as salt and light, and practice healthy rhythms of rest in Christ. These are more than sermons we've heard—they are the values that shape who we are becoming together.
