It’s Real Kyper at Noon, and WE ARE LIVE with Episode 31. Head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, Paul Maurice, tells us what he REALLY thinks of the hit Matthew Tkachuk laid on Mark Scheifele in this year’s NHL Playoffs. 

The boys dive deep into what it has been like to coach in the NHL for 25 years, and what he sees as the next steps for this Winnipeg Jets team. The evolution of some of these young players into what this team has become is very impressive, Paul has been a huge part of that. 

A key storyline in the NHL Playoffs last night was the Tampa Bay Lightning making an absolute statement with a 7-1 rout of the Bruins to take a 2-1 series lead. Nikita Kucherov logged a goal and three assists in the blowout, with Brayden Point and Alex Killorn both adding 3 points of their own. 

Also in the east, the Philadelphia Flyers tied up their series with the New York Islanders, with a huge goal from Philippe Myers 2:41 into overtime.

Maybe premature, but is Elias Pettersson Already a Top-5 Player in the NHL? He added a goal and two assists last night leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights. That series is now locked at 1-1 in the West. It was Robin Lehner’s second loss of the post-season, but accumulated only 22 saves. Do we see Marc-Andre Fleury in Game 3?

We’ve officially got a series in Boston vs. Tampa Bay. The Lightning tied the series after an Ondrej Palat goal in overtime, despite a late Brad Marchand goal in the third period to send the game to extra time.

It’s Real Kyper at Noon, and WE ARE LIVE with Episode 29. Alan May from NBC Sports tells us who he could see becoming the next head coach for Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. 

The boys quickly transition to what’s happening around the 2020 NHL playoffs, specifically that the Philadelphia Flyers “big boys” need to show up against the New York Islanders. They dropped game one last night, as Islanders goaltender, Semyon Varlamov provided his second-straight shutout en route to a convincing 4-0 win on Monday night. 

In the West, the Dallas stars keep rolling, but it didn’t look good midway through the contest down 0-2 after goals from Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Joe Pavelski got the Stars back on track as they stormed back with 5 unanswered goals to take a 2-0 series lead. WOW. The Colorado Avalanche are in serious trouble. 

Tonight we will see a pair of teams attempting to fend off the dreaded 0-2 start. Who is more likely to tie their series… Tampa Bay or Vancouver?

It’s Real Kyper at Noon, and WE ARE LIVE with Episode 28, as Nick Kypreos is back with Doug Maclean to dive into all the latest NHL playoff storylines. 

Obviously, the first story to dive into is did Marc-Andre Fleury’s agent go too far with the image he posted on Twitter over the weekend? Goalie controversy aside, suggesting that coach Peter DeBoer had stabbed the goalie in the back, Fleury did have his agent delete the tweet. Starting goaltender, Robin Lehner, did not seem phased as he responded with a 5-0 shutout in Game 1 over the Canucks. Can the Vegas Golden Knights continue to roll in the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs?

In the East, the Boston Bruins got out to a 1-0 series lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning, despite a late surge from Victor Hedman with 2 goals on the back end. The Bruins survived as the line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak led the way yet again on the scoresheet.

Todd Reirden was also fired over the weekend. The former coach of the Washington Capitals was let go after back-to-back first-round exits in the NHL playoffs. Of course, replacing Stanley Cup-winning coach Barry Trotz after the 2018 season.

Around the NHL, the Dallas Stars now push the Calgary Flames to the brink of elimination after a huge 2-1 win last night in a crucial Game 5. Defenpay semen John Klingberg scored his first goal since the NHL restart, and Jamie Benn got on the scoresheet as well. The Flames are still looking to get out of the first round of playoffs for just the second time since 2004. 

The Vegas Golden Knights advance to the second round with a 4-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. What a story with Robin Lehner being dealt to Vegas at the deadline, only to take down his former team in 5 games. The Washington Capitals avoid the sweep on the shoulders of captain, Alexander Ovechkin, but can they come back against this stingy Islanders team?
