In this episode of Real Mississippi, we discuss the ongoing infant mortality crisis in Mississippi. While national infant mortality rates (IMR) have improved overall, Mississippi continues to have the highest IMR in the nation. Much of this crisis stems from mistrust in Mississippi’s healthcare system between providers and patients, which can lead to a lack of meaningful dialogue and further strain relations between the two groups. Simultaneously, access to adequate healthcare resources remains limited. Ultimately, this episode advocates addressing this systemic mistrust and resource limitations between healthcare providers and patients to improve Mississippi’s disproportionately high IMR.
