In this episode, Matt and I SPEAK about the importance of self care and what it means to work on yourself. We share about our journeys of working in child care and how it has shaped who we are today. The theme of this episode is: “ It’s ok to not be ok’, and it is beautiful to be vulnerable”.
Words from Matt:
What does it mean to be a leader? What does it mean to be a positive role model? What does it mean to make a difference in the lives of children in our community? With 13 years of Summer Daycamp experience and 7 years in the world of Out-of-School-Care programs, Matt has devoted his career to answering these questions through the lens of childcare and recreation. Matt deeply believes that we are not simply ‘qualified babysitters’, and that the impact and importance of this line of work is often overlooked and under appreciated. When we devote the right amount of passion, enthusiasm, love, and commitment to this work, we not only support, inspire and care for these children but we ourselves become everyday superheroes whose impact can last for years to come. But what happens when the hero needs some help? What happens when our own personal ‘bucket’ is running on empty? How can we continue to build ourselves up, so that we in turn can help build up others- because in the end, isn’t that why we’re all here?.
