What is spiritual maturity, and how do we achieve it? We hear this term in church and among Christians, but have you ever wondered what it is? How would you define spiritual maturity?
This is so important because we are commanded to "grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ." We are exhorted not to remain babes but to come to full age in spiritual discernment.
This is the first of several episodes exploring not only what maturity in the Spirit is but also how we attain to it.

If we are to obey the Scriptures and fight our sin, we must supply the heart with a greater fascination and obsession than the sin we are fighting. The heart cannot equally pursue two opposing desires. The key is to expel a lesser longing with a greater, more pleasure-offering desire. When the heart is offered a superior affection, the lesser affection will pale in comparison. The heart will naturally go out and pursue the chief desire.
Nevertheless, we, if honest, must admit that our hearts are often lusting, coveting lesser desires, less worthy loves. How is this possible? I have had the love of God as my heart’s greatest treasure, obsession, and fascination, why is it that sin still catches my eye? And once I lose sight of Christ, why is it that I can’t see Him in His beauty like I once did?
Please listen as Michael Durham answers these most important questions in our pursuit of Christ and His holiness.

We have thus far shared two necessary principles or biblical strategies for fighting sin. Principle one is an intense desire to be free from the sin. Without this, why would you fight against your sin? Principle two is an intense hatred for the sin in question despite the fact that it has an attraction to the flesh. You not only want to be free, but you hate the sin.
This leads us to this episode where the third principle is discussed. Principle number three is: To fight sin, you need to supply the heart with a greater fascination and obsession than the sin.

In this series, we explore how we can put to death sin. As the Apostle Paul defined it, "the deeds of the body," that is, the remaining impulses of sin that use the natural desires of the mind and body to act contrary to the Holy Spirit. In this episode, Michael Durham states the first two principles of how we can, through the Holy Spirit, kill our sin.
