Why do we spend an hour every Sunday here? Why do we volunteer here? There are a handful of things that guide us as we make decisions on what we do, why we do it, and how we do it. In this message, we’d like to tell you a few reasons why we think that Our Church Is Kind Of A Big Deal.

Why do we spend an hour every Sunday here? Why do we volunteer here? There are a handful of things that guide us as we make decisions on what we do, why we do it, and how we do it. In this message, we’d like to tell you a few reasons why we think that Our Church Is Kind Of A Big Deal.

Most parents tend to err on one side or the other – all connection and no correction, or all correction and no connection. We become a dictator or a best friend, neither of which function well as a parent. Jesus understood that in order for someone to mature, those leading them toward maturity have to have high levels of both connection AND correction on a consistent basis.

The culture around us isn’t encouraging kids to grow up, but to rush into and live in a state of suspended adolescence for as long as possible. The goal is full independence free from responsibility. This produces people who look like adults, but emotionally operate like children. We can’t trust the media, schools, or sports programs to raise our kids for us. We have to have a system to intentionally shape counter-cultural values in them along the way.

At the surface level this series looks at parenting, and how we as parents are often times not equipping our kids to be successful adults. Parenting is the mechanism with which children become adults - it’s about maturity. But if you peel away one or two layers, this series is just as much about what it takes for us as adults to have healthy relationships with our parents, kids, spouses, significant others, and beyond.

Sometimes we spend so much time waiting for the perfect scenario to share what God is doing in us, that we never get around to sharing at all.

We have this feeling that there is something we need to do, something we need to say. We know we need to move forward, but we don’t have specifics. We are so insecure and afraid to do it wrong that we don’t do it at all.
