Star Wars: Rebels begins! We take a look at the premiere “film,” Spark of Rebellion.
The Star Wars Report’s Rebels Roundtable has been gearing up for the launch of Rebels for about a year now, whether on social media like Facebook and Twitter or in podcast form during our coverage of The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions and our series of Data Burst and mini-interview episodes with the team. Needless to say, we were all excited to be introduced to the crew of the Ghost when Spark of Rebellion finally arrived.
Join Johnathan, Jen, Berent, and Nathan as they discuss the premiere. Did the “film” (er, double-length episode) live up to our expectations? Is Ezra really a thinly-veiled Aladdin rip-off? Did they really just name the capital city of Lothal “Capital City?” All this and things that actually matter in this episode, as Rebels Roundtable finally covers what it was born to cover: Rebels.

All on the next Star Wars Beyond the Films. YOUR Star Wars discussion podcast! YOUR Podcast of Legends! YOUR ticket to that Galaxy far, far away!
This week true believers, Beyonders, Fanboys, Fangirls, respected aliens around the galaxy, The Defender of the EU; Mark Hurliman, and your EU Guru; Nathan P. Butler, sit down to discuss Dark Horse Comic’s Darth Maul: Son of Dathormir by Jeremy Barlow. So strap in, and tighten your crash webbing Fandom, Star Wars Beyond the Films is setting off on another rapid-fire trip into the galaxy far, far away!Jumping right in, your hosts give you their SPOILER-FREE run down as per their norm. First from a Canon, then a Legends viewpoint. Just be sure to jump out around 20 minutes in when Tarkin’s Arrogance plays.
This episode runs longer than most due to the intricate nature of this Star Wars comic. The story presented exists in both Canon and Legends timelines. The hosts discuss how this works and other things as they move deeper into the story.
Side note: The Sith ship is in fact, NOT Maul’s from Episode 1, as reported in an interview with Jeremy Barlow by Jedi News:
JN: Was the Sith infiltrator in the 4th issue, Maul’s original one or another model?
JB: In the episode screenplay, that ship is designated as “similar to what Darth Maul flew in Episode I”—so it’s another model.
Some panels that the hosts enjoyed, or pondered this episode (Picture Spoilers below):
The emotions of Kenobi express feeling from Satine’s death?
Gar Saxxon (Above)
Grevious kills a similar looking Mandalorian, but the shoulder plates give him away as not Saxxon.
The glorious art captures the details of General Grevious perfectly.
While some character fates become known, enough remains unknown to suggest that The Clone Wars is far from finished telling its stories.
There were also a lot of variants fro issue #1, as well as the Trade paperback:
And then there was the trade-paperback covers:
Once more your hosts cover entirely too much Darth Lords and Witches action this episode. But don’t worry, give it a go; you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you might even get a little education on Star Wars while you’re at it. But no matter how you slice it and dice it, you’ll be having another adventure Beyond the Films. So sit back, hang on, enjoy the show, and may the Force be with you!

Yoda goes on a spectacular(ly confusing) adventure in this episode.
The transition from Republic Forces Radio Network to The Star Wars Report’s Rebels Roundtable concludes in this episode, which marks not just the end of our coverage of The Clone Wars: The Lost Missions (Season 6), but also the final episode to be simul-released as an episode of Republic Forces Radio Network . In this episode, the team takes on the “Yoda Arc,” consisting of The Lost One, Voices, Destiny, and Sacrifice.
(That’s right, Ahsoka. This is all you get to do now that you left. See what you’re missing?)
Of course, with this being the final episode under the RFRN banner, we wanted to do something special this time around. Thus, rather than the usual four panelists, this episode brings all six of the panelists who have made the jump over to The Star Wars Report’s Rebels Roundtable: Johnathan (the host); Jen; Dan; Nathan; Berent; and (for his first time ever on the panel to discuss actual episodes) Mark Hurliman of Star Wars Beyond the Films and The Star Wars Report. We are also visited by the two RFRN regulars who are not making the jump to the new show, show founder Arnie and former host Jerry, as they stop by to bid a fond farewell to the rest of the team and the RFRN audience. It is an episode for the history books . . . if ever such books were written about Star Wars podcasting, that is.
Welcome to the Rebels Roundtable prelude and the bonus episodes of Republic Forces Radio Network. Thank you for joining us as the RFRN team is born anew for a new era of Star Wars cartoons.

Jar Jar and Mace Windu search for The Disappeared in this episode.
The transition from Republic Forces Radio Network to The Star Wars Report’s Rebels Roundtable continues. Jar Jar has always been a bit of a joke (okay, more than a bit) in Star Wars, used for slapstick and dopey comic relief, mixed with a few rare acts that have truly mattered. But what if Jar Jar were taken seriously by a writer and tossed into an Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom style of adventure? It was a question probably no one ever asked . . . yet we received the answer anyway in the form of The Disappeared, Parts 1 and 2. In this episode, Johnathan, Jen, Jerry, and Nathan take on this two-part tale.
(He was apparently tired of those mothersithin’ cultists on that mothersithin’ moon.)
For those of you who are already excited for the new podcast and making the jump over from the old RFRN feed, we have recently released some exclusive new content for you that can only be found in the new Rebels Roundtable release paths (our RSS feed, iTunes, and this website). Be sure to make the jump by using the new feed links down below.
