Rebinge Deep Space Nine

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 11: Rivals. In this episode someone new is hanging out on the station and as usual, we don't think to blame him immediately for a new problem we have. Guest star Chris Sarandon plays Martus Mazur as a slightly smarmy El-Aurian who likes to charm little old ladies out of their money. But luck isn't always on his side.

We have two pairs of rivals in this episode. First there is Quark trying to stop Martus from taking his business when the visitor builds a very popular casino on the Promenade. Then we have Julian and Miles competing for worst racquetball outfit. And it's a toss up!

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 10: Sanctuary. In this episode we beam some flaky skinned people into Ops without asking ourselves whether or not we should beam flaky skinned people into Ops! Why do we do that? Fortunately, they don't bring a new virus to the station, but they do bring a little chaos as the universal translator struggles with their language. But never fear, we eventually get that working and we learn that our visitors are not alone!

The flaky skinned folks turn out to be Skrreans in search of a new home. They've come from the other side of "the eye" in search of a mythical place called Kentanna. The Skrreans were enslaved for centuries until the Dominion conquered their enslavers. In this dramatic story of refugees, Kira finds herself struggling to help everyone and still do her job. Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 9: Second Sight. In this episode Sisko is seeing double. He keeps bumping into a mysterious woman on the promenade to whom he feels very drawn. The mystery deepens when she doesn't reveal any information about herself and she keeps disappearing. Let's get Odo to help!

A terraforming scientist played by Richard Kiley arrives at the station with his gigantic ego and young wife played by Salli Richardson-Whitfield. The mystery of the episode unravels as Sisko realizes the scientist's wife is a doppelganger for a women he keeps running into on the promenade....yet the two women are somehow unaware of each other. Or are they!?

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 8: Necessary Evil. In this episode we appear to flashback to a time when DS9 was part of a Dickens play...no not quite that far...but the station is under Cardassian rule and it's all pretty grim. Odo meets Dukat, Kira and even Quark for the very first time as Dukat strong-arms him into investigating the murder of a Bajoran man.

Quark gets himself into some trouble early on and ends up clinging to life in the infirmary. Investigating this attack sends Odo back in time to the first crime he investigated on the station -- a much darker and (apparently) bluer time when little orphan children sat on the promenade eating gruel. Well, sort of. We flash backwards and forwards quite a bit as Odo manages to solve the new crime and the very old one that eluded him 5 years ago.

Hello Star Trek fans! We have arrived at episode 7: Rules of Acquisition. There's a whole lot of Ferengi going on in this one. Maybe a little bit too much? But we also have Tongo, The X-Files and lobe augmentation to discuss. Thank goodness for some humor here and there because otherwise this episode hits some very low points. Just going to issue a warning here folks....we are pretty hard on the blatant sexism in this episode. You've been warned! (I'd like to apologize for how many times I sigh on this recording. -kv)

In this episode, we meet Pel, a Ferengi with a secret who is well-versed in the Rules of Acquisition. Pel is a new waiter at Quark's but Rom is not impressed. We also get more of the Nagus from season 1 as played by Wallace Shawn and we are introduced to a new race from the Gamma Quadrant called the Dosi. The Dosi are into red face paint and being generally scary. There are some important developments in this episode, but also just some bad bad bad writing. Tune in for our take on rules of Acquisition.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 6: Melora! Ensign Melora (Daphne Ashbrook) from a low-gravity planet arrives on the station and she needs some special accommodations to get around. Bashir takes an extreme interest in her and wants to help increase her mobility and he also wants to date her (because he's Bashir). Meanwhile, Crazy Joe Davola is after Quark for some shady dealings from their past.

In this episode, Ensign Melora is a little touchy about being treated differently or as a medical problem. We talk about the disappointing stereotypes at play here, especially in the beginning of the episode. We also wonder why in the accommodations they made to improve accessibility, they failed to turn on the lights in the hallway outside of her quarters (I mean check the image below)! And finally, we cover the B-story of a dude out to kill Quark...though really he doesn't try that hard.

Hello Star Trek fans! Welcome to Season 2 episode 5: Cardassians! This episode focuses on war orphans left behind by the Cardassians when they withdrew from Bajor. Sisko finds himself in the middle of a custody battle that seems to have piqued the interest of Gul Dukat. Dukat seems overly concerned about the plight of a single orphan that he (supposedly) didn't even know existed up until now. Lots of drama and also another recognizable guest star in Robert Mandan.

An orphaned Cardassian "child" (and I use that term loosely as the actor was in his mid 20s, but playing a 13 year old) turns up at the station. Garek takes a particular interest in him and pays the price when the kid bites him. This sets off a string of events that involves several Dukat phone calls, Sisko in his PJs, some fun banter between Bashir and Garak, a quick trip to a Bajoran orphanage and a weighty custody hearing. Join us as we discuss the development of the Garak-Bashir relationship, the sliminess of Dukat and the purpleness of Sisko's PJs.

Hello everyone! Welcome to Season 2 episode 4: Invasive Procedures! Hot off the 3-part season opener, we slide into a standalone episode starring none other than Lionel Luthor...well actually it's John Glover who is well known for playing Lionel Luthor on Smallville and most importantly LA slimeball Brice Cummings in Scrooged (his most important role). Because the station has been evacuated (so we ARE capable of evacuating!!) , DS9 is being run by a skeleton crew leaving it vulnerable to an attack. And Lionel attacks! And as always, the crew is unprepared and cannot come up with a useful plan! Argh!!!

Lionel Luthor (also known as Verad in this episode) has come to kidnap a member of the crew...well part of a member of the crew. He wants Dax, not Jadzia, just Dax. He's a trill without a symbiont and he's come to rectify that. And let's just say...this does not go well for anyone.

We cover the usual (bad hair) and the not so usual (Kira getting beat up by someone). Something has gone wrong with the hair in season 2 except for some killer bangs back in episode 2. But we are all a bit frizzy or in Lionel Luther's case we've had a very unflattering bowl cut. Questionable hair is a common thing on this show, what's not common is someone getting the better of Kira in a fight! She takes out a big Cardassian in episode 1 of this season, but here she gets taken out by Verad's tough as nails girlfriend. It is alarming!

Hello everyone! Welcome to Season 2 episode 3: The Siege! This is the action-packed finale of the 3-parter that opened season 2. We continue on with our high-powered guest stars of Louise Fletcher, Frank Langella and Richard Beymer though only 2 of them are coming out of this episode alive! And we finally see some teamwork both on the station and on an away mission and it's quite a ride!

Steven Weber, from Wings fame, leads the f-troop in an invasion of DS9. Sisko tries to hold down the fort until Kira and Dax deliver the Cardassian-involvement evidence to the chamber of ministers down on Bajor. So while Sisko is keeping everyone alive on the station (despite the best efforts of Colonel Wings), Kira and Dax are dodging attacks in a sub-impulse bucket of bolts! So much action!

Just one more thing...we may mention the hair in this episode a few times.

Hello everyone! It's time for Season 2 episode 2: The Circle! This is the second episode in a 3-parter and we are digging it so far. We've got all of our high-powered guest stars here in Louise Fletcher, Frank Langella and Richard Beymer. Plus we've got migraine triggers, naked prophecies, the axis of evil and great bangs. Oh yeah and we also debate the greatest scene (so far) of DS9. Kim says yes. James says no. Tune in to find out which scene it is.

Minister Jaro, the power behind The Circle, reveals his nefarious plans in this episode and everything is coming together for him. He's got his scary ally in the Sydney Opera House-sporting Evil Vedek Winn and he's got a stockpile of weapons. Odo is searching for the source of the weapons, everyone is sad Kira is leaving and Kira is searching for the meaning of her naked migraine vision.
