On today’s episode founders Maria and Izzy have guest Sarah Akiba, celebrity stylist & philanthropist, on the podcast to get into all things building your dream brand, the struggles of entrepreneurship, and how to turn these struggles into your superpower!
Born and raised in the fashion capital of Paris, France, Sarah developed a passion for style and attention to detail from a young age, thanks to her parents' influence as global antique collectors and designers. Quickly making a name for herself in the global styling scene, she became known for her unique approach of creating unexpected sartorial combinations that tell a story. Her portfolio includes styling for prestigious events like the Grammys, red carpet appearances, music videos, and editorial shoots for renowned clients such as Jay Wheeler, Lele Pons, Ed Sheeren, J Balvin, David Guetta, and more. Her work has been featured in top publications like Vogue, Ocean Drive Magazine, and People en Español, reflecting the widespread recognition of her distinctive styling.
Beyond her successful career, she founded the nonprofit foundation AWOM (Angel Watching Over Me) in memory of my late father. AWOM focuses on providing support for those who have lost loved ones, hosting weekly support groups for young girls, and addressing crucial topics such as mental health, body image, friendship, and confidence. As an extension of her brand, she launched AWOM Lab, a multifaceted space that serves as a photo studio, event venue, and branding hub. The space offers comprehensive services for creative projects and Instagram campaigns, while also fostering community engagement through events and pop-ups.
Innovatively expanding her reach, she introduced "The Pull," an electrically curated showroom under the brand SOAKIBA, offering a unique fashion consumption experience. This showroom allows individuals to borrow clothes from her archives at their leisure, providing access to a curated collection of modern, vintage, and designer pieces with the expertise of a celebrity stylist. With a Miami-based team, she seamlessly works on projects worldwide, solidifying her presence in fashion hubs like Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
