We have all heard pastors herald it from the stage, "God loves everyone in this room unconditionally!" Is this true? We understand that it might help people feel comforted, but is this statement (or idea) actually biblical? In this episode, we discuss the nuances to the biblical love of God. We talk through some very neglected Scriptures in order to get a more well-rounded perspective of God's love.

When we focus on what others think about us, we are robbed of joy and lose sight of our true identity in Christ. However, the Bible also tells us that we should care what others think of us in certain situations. In this episode, we discuss when we should and when we should not care what others think about us.

This week though, we decided to take some time and pray over what is going on in our world, our nation, and our church. 

One of our listeners reached out to us about a conversation that she had with her friend regarding election. Naturally, there were a lot of questions. In this episode, we give a basic overview of what the Reformed tradition teaches regarding election, as well as try to answer the questions that we were asked!

All throughout the Scriptures, we are told to fear God. In both Old and New Testaments, people who fear God are blessed and those who do not face judgment. But what does this fear mean? Is it simply reverence and respect? Is it simply terror and fright? Most people that we have talked to are uncomfortable with confronting the idea of "fearing" God. 

In this episode, we argue that a proper fear of God is a balance of both: respect and terror. This reality is not something to be run from but instead something that The Lord has given us for our own good and sanctification.

In Matthew 7, Jesus tells us not to judge. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul tells us to judge. Are Paul and Jesus at odds? What do we do with these two passages that seemingly tell us two different things?

In this week's episode, we talk about one of the most misused verses of all time, Matthew 7:1: 

Judge not, that you be not judged. 

What is Jesus telling us in this passage and how do we reconcile it with 1 Corinthians 5?

On the eve of Jesus' betrayal and arrest, Jesus offers a word of encouragement to His disciples. He tells them that He is one with The Father and that they should take heart and not be afraid. Then, Jesus utters some of His most famous (and some of His most abused) words in all of the Gospels:

Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

- John 14:13-14

Sadly, these words are normally stripped from their context and plugged in when someone needs a wish granted. Is this what Jesus Christ had in mind when He uttered these words? We don't believe so.

It is not uncommon to hear verses taken out of context. For the next few weeks we will be taking verses that are often taken out of context and show how they should be used. 

In Esther 4, Mordecai is imploring Esther to take a stand against King Xerxes and he tells Esther that maybe she has been brought to the King's palace for such a time as this. 

Often times, this verse is used in today's context to symbolize an adventure or calling one feels on their life. Is this how we should use this verse today? Listen now as Nathan, Noah, and Josh discuss it!
