We want you to get together…
@catzndogz pay homage to one of the most iconic live vocals in house music history, and
unwittingly drop one of the biggest tracks of the summer in the process. Often sampled, seldom
explicitly credited, the Pets partners develop the legacy by clearing the sample as an official remix.
People, we proudly present Marlena Shaw – Woman Of The Ghetto (Catz ‘N Dogz Remix) Here’s
what the guys have to say about it.
“Everybody knows the vocal sample from the St.Germain record ‘Rose Rouge’, but a lot of people
don’t know the original track is by Marlene Shaw, from a live performance she did back in the days.
It’s been sampled by a lot of other people like Bob Sinclar, Grandmaster Flash and the famous 90s hit
from Blue Boy. We have a lot of memories with this vocal because we were growing up in the 90s.
That’s why we decided to do our take on this one. The first time we played it on a big festival we
were shocked how well it works… That’s why we decided to release it officially, along with a second
version that’s more stripped-down and based only on the conga and djembe rhythms.”
Rattling rhythms, hypnotic percussion, an acid line straight from the gutter of the ghetto and one of
the greatest voices in soul history; this is nothing short of essential.
Put your hands together one time…
