An episode that captures the essence of a Sailor's story of service. Chelsea Mandello was the guest speaker for the April 17th, 2020 Recruit Graduation Celebration. Her story began while serving aboard her seventh ship during an 11-month deployment to the Fifth Fleet area-of-operations. She is the CEO and founder of Troopster.org.

Troopster was founded, Thanksgiving Day in 2015, by U.S. Navy Petty Officer Chelsea Mandello while she was still serving active-duty as a Navy Photojournalist. The site was created to give friends and family of deployed service members a way to easily send their soldiers care packages, without facing any of the trouble of shopping or packing themselves.

Susannah Wellford founded two nonpartisan organizations, Running Start and the Women Under Forty Political Action Committee (WUFPAC), that raise the political voice of young women in America. Susannah has also trained women to run in Algeria, Belgium, Germany, Israel, Jamaica, Kuwait, the Maldives, Russia, Sri Lanka, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom. She holds a BA, English, Davidson College

JD, University of Virginia. Susannah has worked in all parts of politics — as a lobbyist, on the Hill, and even in the White House!

Retired Colonel Andrew R. Milburn started as a Private in the USMC, reaching the rank of Colonel while serving his country domestically and globally. His recent book, When the Tempest Gathers: From Mogadishu to the Fight Against ISIS, a Marine Special Operations Commander at War documents his combat experiences of the first Marine to command a special operations task force recounted against a backdrop of his journey from raw Second Lieutenant to seasoned Colonel and Task Force Commander; from leading Marines through the streets of Mogadishu, Baghdad, Fallujah, and Mosul to directing multi-national special operations forces in a dauntingly complex fight against a formidable foe.

Mike Schultz, former Mayer of Boerne, TX, made a difference in the lives of Air Force boot camp recruits by inviting them to Thanksgiving day lunch. Mike and his wife provided a home-away-from-home for these young men and women through hugs, listening to their stories, and yes, letting them use their cell phones to call home. Mike Schultz has spent most of his professional career in the financial services industry.

He and his family moved to Boerne, TX, in 1993, coming from San Antonio, where they had started his public service career. Mike served on several YMCA committees and was President of the San Antonio YMCA. He served on many church committees and boards. Mike Schultz continued his volunteer public service as Boerne’s mayor elected in

May of 2011 and held four terms ending May of 2019. Mike and his wife are retired, but still actively running a real estate company.

Technical Sergeant Joshua Humble is assigned as an Officer Accessions Recruiter in Raleigh, NC. His current objective is to manage the recruiting and processing of highly qualified men and women to sustain the combat capability of the United States Air Force. He joined the Air Force in 2005 as an Air Transportation and Logistics specialist and has completed 4 overseas tours to Afghanistan, Iraq, Bahrain and Qatar.

In 2013 he decided to help the Air Forces recruitment effort and began recruiting young men and women into the enlisted corps. In 2016 he was vetted into honing his skills as a recruiter to focus on the development of the Officer Corps. Sgt. Humble holds a B.A. Degree in Management, and a Masters in Transportation and Logistics Management, coupled with education and experience in the field, Sgt. Humble devotes himself to the development and enhanced leadership of programs and people."

Duane Stanley, a native of Marquette, Michigan, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1970 under the Navy’s delayed enlistment program. He attended Navy boot camp at the Navy’s Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Illinois in January 1971. Following his boot camp graduation in April 1971 he attended Machinist Mate “A” school at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. In August 1971 he attended “C” school in San Diego, California.

From November 1971 to July 1973 he served on the USS Tripoli LPH-10 as Machinist Mate assigned to “A” Division, his role was an air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic.  The USS Tripoli was deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet from November 1971 to August 1972. The primary mission of the USS Tripoli was to transport U.S. Marine Corp troops from Okinawa, Japan to various locations in Vietnam and from Vietnam to Okinawa, Japan.

In July 1973 he was transferred from the USS Tripoli to the USS Thomaston LSD-28. He serve as a third class Machinist Mate petty officer assigned to “A” Division assigned the roles of an air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, hydraulics technician, and engiineman.  The mission of USS Thomaston was the same as the USS Tripoli.

In December 1974 he was transferred from active service to the inactive reserves. In December 1976 he was honorably discharged from U.S. Navy.
