Good evening! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Florida Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, Florida is about to get a reality check tonight. That cold front that blew through? It's not messing around. By early Tuesday morning, you're waking up to temperatures you'd expect in Georgia.. Not the Sunshine State.
Let's take the tour. Up in North Florida, tonight drops to around 31 degrees. Wind chills push that down to 31 degrees. That's freeze warning territory. Frost on your windshield, frost on your plants, frost on your patience. Tuesday stays sunny but tops out in the upper 50s. That's a good 31 degrees below where you'd normally be.
Slide down into Central Florida and you're not much better off. Lows tonight around 34 degrees, but wind chills make it feel like 27. Tuesday brings sunshine and highs in the low 60s. Still chilly by our standards.
Over in Tampa Bay, you're looking at 36 degrees tonight. Wind chills near 32. Tuesday climbs to the low 60s under sunny skies.
Now South Florida.. You're the lucky ones. Lows tonight around 46 degrees, feeling closer to 40 with the wind. Tuesday afternoon pushes into the mid 60s. That's practically tropical compared to everyone else.
Here's the thing. This cold snap has a very short lease. Wednesday the warmth comes roaring back. Highs jump into the 70s statewide. Thursday some spots flirt with 80 degrees. Then Friday.. Plot twist. Another front barrels in with rain and thunderstorms. The weekend stays unsettled with afternoon showers and highs holding in the 70s.
Tonight, though, protect those plants. Bring the pets inside. Cover any exposed pipes, especially in North and Central Florida. And if you're near the coast, rip currents are running. Not the week for a swim.
I'll be tracking that Friday front closely. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Stay warm tonight!
