Red Flag Warning | Florida Weather Noon

Listen Later

Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Florida Weather Podcast for Monday, February 23rd.
Folks, Florida is pulling double duty today. Freeze warnings up north.. And Red Flag fire warnings across half the state. Same day. Same sunshine. Totally different problems.
Let's start where it stings. North Florida is the coldest spot right now. Highs only hit 51 degrees around 3 PM. Winds gusting to 17 miles an hour. By 7 AM Tuesday, wind chills drop to 31 degrees. That's frostbite territory. Tonight? Lows fall to 31 degrees with widespread frost.
Slide down to Central Florida. You're topping out around 55 degrees near 4 PM. Northwest gusts push 20 miles an hour. Tonight brings a hard freeze inland. Lows hit 34 degrees. By 5 AM Tuesday, wind chills crater to 27 degrees.
Over in Tampa Bay, highs reach 54 degrees around 1 PM. Winds stay calmer, near 9 miles an hour. But by 7 AM Tuesday you're feeling 31 degrees. Lows tonight settle near 36.
Now push south. Miami and the Gold Coast see 62 degrees around 2 PM with breezy northwest winds, 14 to 22 miles an hour. By 6 AM Tuesday you're down to 46 degrees. Wind chills make it feel like 40. That's grab a jacket cold for South Florida.
Two things you'll want to take seriously tonight. Cover those plants. Bring pets inside. And with Red Flag Warnings flying across North Central Florida, don't burn anything outdoors. Critically low humidity plus 30 mile an hour gusts equals disaster waiting to happen.
Also, rip currents are running high on both coasts. Stay out of the water.
Now the good news. Tuesday starts another freeze risk inland, but by Wednesday.. Highs climb back into the 70s. Thursday and Friday? Upper 70s, low 80s, with thunderstorms likely Friday. The weekend parks itself in the low 80s with mostly sunny skies. Winter's last gasp is tonight.
I'll be watching the overnight freeze closely. Charge your phone and set that plant alarm.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow. Take care!
