In theory, every relationship could work. In reality, whether a relationship actually CAN work depends on many different factors. Also: just because a relationship COULD work, doesn't mean you have to work at it incessantly to the point of personal exhaustion, it becomes self-sabotage. We all deserve a love that is simple. Not easy, but simple.
