Ahmed Abofoul, a Gaza-born international lawyer and a legal researcher at Al-Haq, a leading Palestinian human rights organisation based in Ramallah. He’s currently based in the Hague, and specialises in documenting violations of international law and advocating for global accountability mechanisms.

On 13 April 2026, 3 Palestinian human rights organisations, including Al-Haq, filed an application for preliminary discovery in the Federal Court of Australia to compel the Minister for Defence, Richard Marles, to release documents related to Australia’s arms exports to Israel. 

A hearing was listed to be heard in the Federal Court of Australia on last Friday the 29th May and Ahmed was in Australia for the Federal Court hearing. 

Following a two-year battle to gain transparency over export permits to Israel, the 3 Human Rights organisations have secured an agreement that the Australian Minister for Defence disclose information relevant to export permits.

On 25 June 2026, Justice McElwaine of the Federal Court of Australia, made an Order by consent of the parties that the 3 Palestinian organisations be provided with a list of documents related to arms exports to Israel. These relate to: the export of F-35 components where the permission is currently in effect; permissions related to Bisalloy Steel; permissions granted after October 2023 that are currently in effect; decisions not to revoke current permissions that were granted before October 2023; and, documents related to permits that are still under scrutiny following the government’s review into current permits issued before October 2023.

In this conversation, Ahmed dicusses this court case as well as Australian and the international complicity in the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Trita Parsi is the executive vice president of the Quincy Institute. He is an award-winning author. He has authored four books on US foreign policy in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Iran and Israel.

Parsi’s latest book – Losing an Enemy: Obama, Iran and the Triumph of Diplomacy (Yale University Press, 2017) – reveals the “behind the scenes” story to the nuclear deal with Iran.

He is an expert on US-Iranian relations, Iranian foreign policy, and the geopolitics of the Middle East.

He has been named by the Washingtonian Magazine as one of the 25 most influential voices on foreign policy in Washington DC for five years in a row since 2021, and preeminent public intellectual Noam Chomsky calls Parsi “one of the most distinguished scholars on Iran.”

Sydney University academics Professor John Keane and Dr Nick Riemer have been taken to the Australian Federal Court, as their own colleagues lodged an antisemitism complaint against them. The reason: Being outspoken against the state of Israel’s Genocide in Gaza.

Dr Mitri Raheb is a Palestinian pastor, theologian and author of many books including ‘Decolonising Palestine: The Land, The People, The Bible’. Founder and President of Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem, Palestine. Former pastor of Christmas Lutheran Church. 

Mouin Rabbani is a Palestinian-Dutch analyst and commentator on Palestinian Israeli affairs. 

Diana Buttu is a Palestinian Canadian lawyer, former advisor to the Palestinian Liberation Organisation PLO, citizen of Israel and host of the podcast This Is Palestine.

Dr Ghada Karmi is a Palestinian doctor, activist, academic and writer. Author of many books including ‘One State’ and ‘In Search of Fatima’.

Dr Ghada reflected on the ongoing genocide in Palestine, provided commentary on the recent recognition of the state of Palestine by some Western countries and gave us a few cues on how to mobilise for an envisioned free and liberated Palestine.
