In a rematch from last years playoff game, the Green Bay Packers defeated the Dallas Cowboys, 28-7. On a rainy afternoon, the Packers decided to turn the play calling back to coach Mike McCarthy. This resulted in running the ball 44 times and accumulating 230 yards. The Cowboys cut the lead to 14-7, when Robert Turbin bolted in from seven yards out, in the third quarter. The Packers increased the lead in the fourth quarter with a 12 play, 84-yard drive that consumed over six minutes and increased their lead to 21-7.
The Packers defense allowed two big runs to Darren McFadden but were able to get off the field when it mattered most. The Cowboys were a dismal nine percent, on third downs. Green Bay's top cornerback, Sam Shields, left the game after his head slammed into the turf making a tackle on Lucky Whitehead. With Shields out, rookie cornerback Quinten Rollins had the task of covering Dez Bryant. Rollins and the Green Bay secondary held Bryant to one catch for nine yards.
Eddie Lacy and James Starks would have made Vince Lombardi proud. Both running backs pounded the open holes created by the offensive line. The duo combined for 35 carries, 195 yards, and two touchdowns. Starks added a receiving touchdown. Aaron Rodgers completed passes to eight different receivers and ended his day 22 of 35 for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
The Packers improve to 9-4 and have a one game lead, and the tiebreaker over the Minnesota Vikings for the NFC North division lead. The Cowboys fall to 4-9 but only remain two games out of first place, in the NFC East. Next Sunday, the Packers travel to Oakland, while the Cowboys host the New York Jets, on Saturday.
