Andrew Luck was suppose to set the precendent for quarterback salaries, in the future. Many people predicted that he would command a deal that paid him $25 million per year. However, by signing a deal worth $140 million, he did become the highest paid player in the NFL, but did not skew the numbers. The $23.3 million per year is only slightly higher than the $22.1 and $22.0 million that Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers earn per year. A big part of this contract was the $87 million in guaranteed money. Luck had an injury prone 2016 season, and will need to come back strong to prove that he is worthy of being the highest paid player, in the NFL. His 4.8% touchdown rate ties him for 53rd on the all-time TD percentage list and is 1.6% lower than Aaron Rodgers. People argue that Luck throws two many interceptions, but his INT percentage rate is only 2.6% which puts him in a tie at 20th. Bernie Nicholls played for six different NHL teams over 17 years, and finished with 1,209 points. He finished with a 1.073 points per game average, which ranks 31st all time. The 70 goals he scored in 1988-1989 with the Los Angeles Kings makes him one of eight players to ever score 70 goals in a season. The sports world moarns the loss of two coaches who changed their sport. Pat Summitt coached 38 seasons at Tennessee and led the Lady Vols to eight national titles. Summitt ended her career with 1.098 wins. Buddy Ryan is best known for inventing the 46 defense which sent more players after the quarterback than the other team could block. The 1984 Chicago Bears team recorded 72 sacks, and that record still stands. Both coaches did remarkable things in their respective sports, and they will be sadly missed. We had a very busy weekend in sports. We saw Chile defeat Argentina in the finals of the Copa America Soccer Tournament and saw Lionel Messi retire from playing for Argentina this morning via twitter. What does this mean for international soccer? 

A fight broke out during the NASCAR Truck series race between two drivers and Tony Stewart broke a 84 race drought in Sonoma over the weekend. 

2016 has been a rough year for our music and sports heroes as a number have passed a way and now reports are coming out that Pat Summitt death is imminent.

The 2016 NBA Draft does not receive the same hype as the NFL draft, but it is an exciting time for the teams in the lottery. The Philadelphia 76ers won the first overall pick, and selected Ben Simmons. Simmons is 6-10, 240 pound forward from LSU. After a one and done season, Simmons was projected by man to be the number one pick. Kris Dunn was the first guard selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the fifth pick. The Milwaukee Bucks may have suprised some people by selecting Thon Maker, with the 10th overall pick. Maker is from Australia but played his high school basketball in Canada. Maker has raw talent but will need to beef up to play among the men in the NBA. He stands 7-1 but only weighs 216 pounds. What are your thoughts about this pick? The last major sporting event before the start of training camp is the MLB All-Star game. The 87th All-Star game will be played July 12th, at Petco Park in San Diego, CA. Fans are able to vote on their teams website, or they can go directly to the website https://securea.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/y2016/ballot.jsp. Have you voted? The NHL crowned their Stanley Cup Champion, and LeBron James brought the NBA Championship to Cleveland. This means that the only major sport left in-season is Major League Baseball. The 87th All-Star game is less than a month away, on July 12th, 2016. NFL will open training camp at the end of July, so it is a slow time in sports. As the NFL moves to a pass happy league, teams are looking for three viable options. There are few teams that can have a legitimate third receiver that scares opponents. Rosenthal ranked the four best recevier groups. Jacksonville started the list at number four, followed by the New Patriots at three. His runner-up was the Washington Redskins, and the crown went to the Arizona Cardinals. The Cleveland Cavaliers can finally hoist the NBA Championship hardware for the first time in team history. LeBron James was named the NBA Finals MVP after the Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors in game seven. James delivered a masterful game, 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. However, the biggest play came on defense. With the game tied at 89, Andre Iguodala had a chance to give the Warriors a two-point lead but James vaulted to the ball and blocked his shot. This play occured during a four minute span in which the game remained tied at 89. What is overshadowed, the defense of the Cavaliers, which held the Warriors scoreless for the last 4:53. For Cleveland it is their first championship, and for James he collected his third.

NFL training camps are about one month away. For many, this is one month to long. The NFL has become a year-round business, but after the Super Bowl, the hype goes away until the NFL Combine. The Combine is the hint that the NFL Draft is right around the corner. Teams add young players, in the draft, and the fans anticipate the start of training camp. OTA's are the last tease, for the fans, before training camp opens. This NFL offseason has been relatively quiet on and off the field, in comparison to prior years. On the MLB preview show, Troy said the Milwaukee Brewers would lose 100 games. As the MLB All-Star game approaches, the Brewers sit at 30-36, and only sit 5.5 games out of the wildcard. Realistically, the Brewers are not going to make the playoffs, but being just six games under .500 could be considered a major accomplishment. The starting pitching has shown signs of brillance, and then signs of inconsistency. This is to be expected with a young staff that has no dominant ace. Offensively, the Brewers have cooled down, but Jonathan Villar, Jonathan Lucroy, and Ryan Braun are hitting over .300. Role player Hernan Perez lingers at .299, while Chris Carter has shown some pop in his bat, with 17 home runs. Matt Garza was activated from the DL and made his first start of the season against the San Francisco Giants. He did not factor in the decision only pitching four innings.
