In this episode we visit with Ruth Hopkins (Cankudutawin-Red Road Woman) She is Dakota and Lakota, of the Oceti Sakowin (Great Sioux Nation), born on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation, and enrolled with the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate of the Lake Traverse Reservation. Ruth is an award winning columnist for Indian Country Today, and co-founder of Lastrealindians.com. She is a contributor for The Guardian, Truthout.org, Jezebel.com, Racialicious.com, BKNation.org, and Counterpunch.org. Her work has been featured everywhere, including Gawker, the Associated Press, The Hollywood Reporter, The Huffington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Star Magazine, MTV, and she’s been a regular on TMZ Live. Ruth is also an attorney, tribal judge, and a biologist who specializes in ethnobotany and environmental science.

In this episode we visit with cartoonist Ricardo Cate of 'Without Reservations' Ricardo Cate is from Kewa Pueblo (Santo Domingo) in New Mexico and draws the only Native cartoon that runs as a daily in a mainstream newspaper. His cartoon, Without Reservations, appears in both the Santa Fe New Mexican and Taos news. His work can also be viewed on his Facebook pages “Ricardo Cate” and “Without Reservations”. Ricardo’ simply draws about Native life and how it coexists with the dominant culture from a Native’s perspective.
