  • Holly Stephey talks to Shauna Burns New LP Violet!
Over the past few years, Burns has enchanted audiences across the U.S. and in the U.K. with songs from her four original albums and her 2011 holiday release A Winter Gathering, which is a collection of newfangled, holiday carols and original songs.
“I view these performances as if I’m holding a conversation with the audience,” Burns says. “I’m communicating with whoever chooses to listen in that moment, and like to visualize my music embracing whoever wants to embrace it. Just as it’s a friend to them, music is my friend as well. There’s also a time travel element to the experience as well. A lot of people say my songs remind them of things they haven’t thought about in years. They help them recall the innocence of childhood that they had forgotten about. That’s what music does for me, too. I have a huge respect for the power of music and just how spiritual it can be. That’s why I take it so seriously.”

*Burns is proud to announce her brand new album entitled Violet. The direction taken for this project is focused on a female love-inspired freedom. Continuing with her Celtic flare, this upcoming release will have positive messages of understanding and show that women are capable of being the heroine and uplifting to those around them.

  • "STEVE CONTE & THE CRAZY TRUTH"
Join us for another edition of the Indie Cafe with Spencer Drate  with special cohost Jimmy McElligott!Steve Conte may be best known as the guitarist with New York Dolls, Willy DeVille, Michael Monroe and Company Of Wolves - or perhaps as the singer with Paul Simon, Yoko Kanno, Crown Jewels and The Contes. The bottom line is, Conte is no slouch - as a musician or a rock & roller. Shortly after his band "Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth" released their critically acclaimed debut album Conte went on tour in the USA and Europe, sharing stages with artists like Nashville P*ssy, Urban Voodoo Machine & Flamenco guitar legend Raimundo Amador. Working between records & tours as lead guitarist/backing singer and co-songwriter with the legendary New York Dolls, Conte produced his band's debut, a scorching 11 song rock & roll disc called simply "STEVE CONTE & THE CRAZY TRUTH" which features a guest performance by Dolls front man David Johansen on harmonica.

  • Holly Stephey & Thelma Houston and JANITOR NEW EP!
Houston is well-known to the world of Disco, R&B and Motown. One of her most notable singles during that period was "You've Been Doing Wrong for So Long" which secured her a Grammy nomination for a Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Houston released her third album Any Way You Like It in 1976. The first single released was her version of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes’ 1975 song "Don’t Leave Me This Way”. In February 1977 the track hit Number 1 in the U.S. on the R&B and Club Play Singles charts and in April 1977 on the Hot 100 Charts. "Don't Leave Me This Way" won Houston the Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the Grammys for 1977.Most recently she has teamed up with JANITOR, an up-and-coming producer and multi-instrumentalist who has played on hundreds of records as a cellist and bassist for veteran bands. Together they have formed this creative relationship built on respect and friendship. This project is a testament to how an unlikely pairing can collaborate as they formed this partnership by creating songs that truly speak about their issues.  Keeping an open mind, blending genres, styles, and focusing on the emotional context is what “fortytwo,” is about .Original songs aren’t a dime a dozen. It may be hard to recreate such a sound from one of American music’s most famous disco diva icons, Thelma Houston.  Add into the mix a 28 year old producer named JANITOR who is deeply embedded in the Los Angeles indie rock scene and you have “fortytwo” - the EP concept and the actual age difference between Houston and JANITOR and an innovative new side-project that challenges the limit of an unlikely collaboration that incorporates both contemporary and vintage sounds.

  • Holly Stephey with Sheila Swift "The Shape of Things''
Rock-star-in-waiting Sheila Swift makes no bones about a few things: she’s from Houston, which she’ll proudly announce at the top of her live set even when playing at worlds-away venues like the cat club and the whiskey a go go on the Los Angeles strip.  She’s evolved into a full fledged rock singer, largely leaving behind the pop-rock leanings of her previous work in favor of a more pure rock sound, which shines through on the new material that she and her band debuted at a pair of shows in LA this March after a stop-off in Austin at SXSW And despite taking the serious-seeming move of turning up all the knobs on her music of late, she likes to laugh. Sheila Swift recently ventured on 5 week tour in Germany and the Netherlands. On her European tour, Swift gave audiences renditions of her new songs which manage to maintain the resonance of her earlier work while flexing a new found rock edge. Ecstatic European fans described Sheila as a mix of Gwen Stefani and Neil Young.  She’s got the kind of offstage affability to lightheartedly joke around about the fact that she shares a last name with country star Taylor Swift (no relation, for the record), and enough whimsy to have named her twin baby girls “Dylan” and “Marley” after the two greatest Bob's in the history of music. After several years in progress and a recent tour in Europe, her new anticipated EP album, "The Striving is Over", is ready to be released on August 13th in the US.  In this new album, Sheila sings songs inspired by personal, yet inspiring experiences of her life, transmitting a positive and uplifting message. But that's not it! Following "The Striving is over", Sheila Swift has more musical endeavors up her sleeve. Swift plans a vinyl album release, by the end of the year, incorporating tracks from the latest EP.

Glenn's inspirational music transcends genre and style, giving “Spiritual Rock” a 21st Century meaning.
It's often said that to find the truth one must go within and listen with the heart. Glenn's music invites everyone to take that "journey of the soul". With catchy hooks, melodies and thought provoking lyrics, his music reflects awareness and consciousness from one song to the next sparking one emotion after another."Breathe, Love, Life" features; Producer Larry Russell (Billy Joel), Kenny Aaronson (Billy Idol & Joan Jett), Steve Lukather (Toto), Tommy Mandel (Bryan Adams), Brian Dunne (Hall & Oates), Gregg Gerson (Mick Jagger), Steve Holley (Wings), Alan St Jon (Billy Squier), Arno Hecht (The Uptown Horns), John Merjave (Glen Burtnik), Benny Landa (Benny Landa), Joe Pecorino (Beatlemania), and notable background vocalists, Marge Raymond, Cheryl Krebs, Jenna Ferone, Aja St Jon, and George Stass. The first two singles, "Safe To Smile" and “Shangri-La” are being heard and seen daily on Internet radio, Reverbnation, and YouTube gaining a worldwide fan base. “Safe To Smile” with its memorable Beatlesque guitar intro is about honoring your Divine self, and not buying into other people's belief systems that are not your own. And, “Shangri-La” with its 1950's influenced slow shuffle is about facing the unknown yet knowing that everyone and everything has a purpose. In the spring of 2013, Glenn recorded a new song "God In Drag" with producer, Larry Russell, George Stass, and John McCurry (Julian Lennon) as a new single digital release and music video.

  • Holly Stephey Talks to Labretta Suede &The Motel 6
Labretta Suede and The Motel 6 are a bunch of crazed rock ‘n’ rollers with a reckless set and a show of music and outfits you could just LICK! With a 50′s rock ‘n’ roll influence, a twang and some dirge, Labretta Suede and The Motel 6 are an ass whippin’, high kickin’, low down rockin’ an-a-reelin’, high-class outfit. Formed in 2005 in Auckland, New Zealand with influences wide throughout the decades before them of damn good music. This band brings back the true essence of roots based rock n roll, punk and rockabilly blues.Fronted by bad girl tease Labretta Suede, with her sexy gritty performances, full frontal outfits and irresistible, irreverent, deep rich vocals that simply undress and unleash you while, right-hand flesh eating Johnny Moondog makes you completely unhinged with his wild tone, crazed reverb and mind bending psychedelic distortion and sneer. These two unruly and insatiable founding members are the essence behind this world traveled jungle of juju strange.Complimented by their original New Zealand counterparts, Chris ‘Bumbo’ Kemp  and JayL Vodanovich  who kept their heads cool to lay down the slosh, so as not to drown. This melding of nostalgic, yet originally infused swagger was at the fore front of bad-ass rock n roll car culture, b -grade art, cinema and burlesque in their faraway shores of Aotearoa (New Zealand). However, feeling the fever to spread the disease long and far from the way down under pools of volcanic laha, they relocated to the other side of the planet. That’s right, to New York City.Seeking to find just the right kinda strange to fit their new line-up. Cue, Max Speed . A man of 50′s super hero physic and proportions yet with dainty ankles for high-heel wearing and stocking steeling. However, all would not be complete without drummer Capt’n Gerry. So, the new line-up of fiends was born. http://www.labrettasuede.com/wordpress/
