Publisher's Summary:
For over 200 years, the last of humanity has lived on Mars under the all-seeing eye of The Union. Life on Mars is bleak, nothing like the utopia that was promised to the people before the great migration from Earth. Generations have been forced into backbreaking labor with little reward, and the masses live in constant fear of those in power. Unrest is rising. Change is inevitable. A revolution is on the horizon. Alerik and his team find themselves in the eye of the storm, pulled between opposing factions as they search for the truths that have been buried deep beneath the Martian soil. Time is running out and they will all have to pick a side. As they uncover the mysteries surrounding the settlement, they begin to realize that nothing is what it seems, and sometimes working with the enemy is the only way to save what matters most.

Brilliant Debut
A fantastic sci-fi tale of forgotten freedom in the not too distant future on Mars. Corruption politics, power, and greed must be brought to justice in order for the working class to survive. The lies and deceit are difficult for the two main characters to maneuver through, which makes trying to figure out who the good guys are a very difficult task.
Always fun when a believable love triangle is thrown in, even though this is far from a romance novel. Definitely more action and violence than soft moments here.
Be warned that there is a horrible cliff hanger at the end that will leave you pounding on Kyle Perkins's door, begging for the sequeal!
A Diamond in the Not-So-Rough
I'm wary of self-published efforts on Amazon these days. I'm more than a little bit of a snob, and the sight of a misspelled word or a shakily written phrase has always been enough to send me running, my wallet clenched firmly in one white-knuckled hand.
It's a conceit, but we've all got a few of those; as such, I've never felt particularly badly about it. There are worse character flaws than to demand flawless writing from everybody who's ever put pen to paper, right? I mean, I've definitely made a few such mistakes (all the time) in my own writing, but it's okay when *I* do it.
This book is the debut work of an author who only recently discovered a love of writing. For being without the backing of a life-long interest, as such, it's more than impressive: it's simply amazing. It isn't perfectly written. It's not devoid of writing errors. It's clear that it was written without the use of an expensive professional editing service. Setting all of that aside, it is a compelling and beautifully composed story, with exciting events and interesting characters.
There is depth and breadth of scope to be had here, which impressed me. I didn't expect to be impressed. I didn't expect to feel embarrassed about my conceits, or to find myself changing a life-long tune of my own as a result.
This author has since gone on to write, and to co-write, several other books in rapid succession. In spite of this prolific rate, his work continues to compel and enthrall, revealing a rich understanding of human nature and an excellent grasp of realistic and evocative detail.
