Overview:

The command to follow Jesus is universal to all believers and is not a spiritual truth but a living reality. We follow Jesus as He providentially shepherds us through life. We follow Him by studying Him and imitating Him just as the original disciples did. Whereever he leads us, we follow Him, all the way to the glorious destination of eternity future.

The Triune God made men image bearers of Himself. When we believed the lie of Satan we tarnished that image beyond recognition. So God came in the image of man to remake men into the image of God. A disciple is a person in the midst of becoming - a person in the process of being made into something new. Believing His promise to do so is how we are transformed.

This life is filled with trials, sorrows and struggles that are far too much for us to bear. That is is why part of loving and serving one another is bearing one another’s burdens. We can’t make it through this life without the love and support of one another.

In order for us to love one another, we must, in humility, consider others our equals and esteem them as better than ourselves. Because only then are we able to look upon our brothers and sisters rightly and desire to serve them. Otherwise, we become haughty, look down upon them and pull back from loving them.
