Guest speaker Pastor DeLayno Robinson preached on John 4:39-42 in today's message, "The Savior of the World." In this message, Pastor Marc Champagne looks at 1 Kings 17-19, after a brief update about the vision of Redeemer and where that's taking us as a church.

This passage of the Old Testament offers us a survey of the life of Elijah, which is pretty remarkable: Living in a divided kingdom, Elijah is part of a vanishing group of prophets who remain true to God's Word. When truth-telling confronts the powers-that-be, fireworks tend to follow.

His epic battle with Israel's king, Ahab, and his enthusiastic followers is Marvel-like, as is the miraculous provision of food by birds and the never-ending jar of flour in the home of a widow. You will find those stories in chapters 17 and 18. Truly amazing.

Which is what makes chapter 19 so striking: There, we see Elijah depressed and defeated. How is that possible against the backdrop of such spectacular displays of God's provision and power?!

However, then a really incredible thing happens: On Mt. Horab, God reveals to Elijah the reality of his presence. God is not found in the torrential wind, the earthquake, or the fire but in the gentle whisper. His presence is right there, in the ordinary.

In today's message, Pastor Marc Champagne preaches on Ecclesiastes 1, where Solomon begins exploring the meaning of life with all of his resources. This king had it all, you know: influence, smarts, romance, wealth. It wasn't enough, though. Ever. So he chased after more and more and more. Still not satisfied.

If we know the biblical narrative, this should not surprise us, really. Because of the Fall, we chase created things rather than the Creator, and our affections are wildly misplaced. Knowing that reality does not seem to keep us from such empty pursuits.

Such is the case for Solomon, whose grand experiment ultimately fails and leaves him hollow until he reorients his life around a central truth: "Life Without God...is Meaningless."

Have you heard of “Fear of Missing Out,” otherwise known as FOMO?

Psalm 150, the closing lyrics in the Bible’s songbook, invites us to the most majestic, all-encompassing, socially-relevant, individually-transforming event ever: praising God.

Thirteen times in the text, we read a form of "hallelujah," the Hebrew equivalent of verbal worship, and that call to do so extends from the highest heavens to the depths of the sea. No person, no creature, is exempt from this command, for it brings to fruition the purpose of our existence, which is to glorify God.

But we can miss it. Let's pray none of us do as we consider "The Final Hallelujah."

As a church, Redeemer has been reading through the Bible chronologically this year and we are now learning about Solomon, King David's son, whose prayer was for wisdom so that he might rule well. God granted that prayer in spades. Solomon's knowledge, and the capacity to use it correctly, became renowned well beyond the bounds of Israel.

Wouldn't it be amazing if we had a way to access some of that wisdom? Welcome to Proverbs! Solomon's collection of sayings is written like a parent passing on wisdom to a child (which is fitting since we have K-Kids with us in the service!), and he says effectively there are two paths to life: one that leads to joy and the other to pain.

It's that simple. "Your Choice: Wisdom or Folly." Let's pray we choose wisely!

Pastor Marc Champagne preaches on 1 Chronicles 29:10-20 in this week's sermon.

The reference for this week's message may seem obscure, buried in the pages of 1 Chronicles at the end of the book (chapter 29:10-20), but the content of those verses is astounding.

Here, in David's prayer as he begins preparations for the temple which his son Solomon will build, the great king of Israel declares that "God is the Source of All Things." All greatness: his. All power:his. All wealth: his. All splendor: his. All glory: his. Everything in heaven and earth is his (v. 11)!

It is a remarkable concept, but as David clearly shows, the concept touches on reality in the most practical of ways for those who know this truth.

Pastor Marc Champagne preaches on Psalm 95, in which its author makes a straightforward and explicit statement: that the God of the Bible is the only one worthy of our worship.

What a claim!

Such a stark statement might draw a "ho hum" response by many, which would be a grave mistake. Apathy is not an option.

If, in fact, this God is the maker and knower of all (move over, Google), then exuberant and reverent worship of Him is the right and fulfilling response.

That is true for everyone, and especially for those who have already embraced it, for the warning at the end of the Psalm is to the people of God: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts...."

Please pray hearts are drawn to "The Only God Worthy of Our Worship."

Wouldn't if be nice if we could just download onto our smart phones a solution to our greatest problems: our offense toward God, our hurt of others, our justification of wrong actions, our minimizing and normalizing of what is wrong, the distance we create internally and externally in our shame, our sense of failure, our striving for identity?

The greatest mind in Silicon Valley cannot fix this problem, however. Granted, we can distract, ignore, create a temporary fix, or lash out at ourselves and others in an effort to alleviate the deep sense that something is wrong.

Or, we can follow the path of wisdom and squarely face reality with the hope of genuine healing and flourishing.

There is no app for dealing with the problem of sin, but there is One who has dealt with it at great price, and who gives us a remedy for our offenses. This is the way of confession. This is the way of the Gospel.
