Chapter 14 puts Abram forward as one of the many "redeemer" figures in the Bible and introduces us to a very obscure man named Melchizedek, who is both priest and king. The themes of this passage are picked up throughout the Bible and ultimately fulfilled in our great Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, who would come and demonstrate that He is the ultimate Priest-King.

In this passage we see God reiterate his promise to Abraham and gives him foretastes of the blessings. As Christian, it's vital for us to remember that the promises to Abraham are ultimately fulfilled in Christ and thus all believers share in these blessings.

Although earthly hardships may threaten the promises of God, his faithfulness guarantees that His people will not only receive life but receive it abundantly.

The Tower of Babel showed us that the world God created is still languishing under sin and sin's curse. God's gracious rescue mission, however, will not be thwarted and in this passage we get a sneak preview of His plan for people from every tribe, nation, and tongue.

Those who have been radically transformed by Jesus (who became poor so we could be rich) are excited to give sacrificially of their finances to make much of Him in all things.

The Lord Jesus, on His way to the cross, prayed that His church would be unified, so that the world might look at the church and have a sense of God's love for His people. We must therefore work to recognize unity killers and take the necessary steps to keep unity in the local church.

All Christians are commanded by King Jesus to make disciples of all the nations. We must therefore repent of any

God sent his Son so that those who believe in him would have eternal life. We are called to live in light of this gift by investing in the world to come.
